Mechanical Structural Engineer

The Mechanical Structural Engineer (MSE) researches, develops, designs, and validates mechanical and structural components for use in mining equipment. The MSE is responsible to ensure that products developed meet the required cost targets, technical specifications, and, that projects are completed within the projected timelines.

Responsibilities

Mechanical Structural Engineer 1

Assists Design Drafters in developing the structural design of products using Computer-Assisted Design (CAD) software. Works with Engineers to specify type and size of structural members. Researches, designs, installs, validates, analyzes, and maintains machined parts, castings, welded fabrications, and other components of structural and mechanical systems and processes to meet requirements, applying knowledge of engineering principles Computes and estimates loadings on structural members. Works independently and as a team member with other Engineers, Designers, and production personnel or on ad hoc projects. Interacts with customers and suppliers as part of a team.

Mechanical Structural Engineer 2

All duties of MSE 1, plus: Confers with Engineers and other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve structural problems, and provide technical information. Specifies material requirements, or directs modification of truck components to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications. Works with other engineers to research and analyze customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications. Investigates and diagnoses structural and mechanical failures and makes recommendations to maintenance crew. Reads and interprets maintenance and operators manuals, blueprints, technical drawings, hydraulic schematics, pressure traces, electrical schematics, and computer-generated reports. Provides feedback to other Engineers on customer problems and needs related to structural components and systems. Performs installation, validation, and inspection guidelines to ensure that structural components are installed and functioning according to specifications. Approves drawings and contributes in design reviews.

Mechanical Structural Engineer 3

All duties of MSE 2, plus: Works independently with suppliers to obtain component information and establish component specifications. Specifies type and size of equipment such as main frames, axle boxes, superstructures, fuel tanks, hydraulic tanks, and structural power module equipment. Develops and oversees installation and testing to ensure that structural components are installed and functioning according to specifications. Researches and analyzes customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibilities, and cost of designs or applications. Interacts independently with customers or suppliers in routine situations. Collaborates cross-functionally to integrate mechanical/engine components, hydraulic components, and control systems into mining equipment. Plans projects including scope, schedule and provides cross-functional updates and reports. Advises engineers as a subject matter expert.

Mechanical Structural Engineer 4 (Senior)

All duties of MSE 3, plus: Trains, mentors, and develops Engineers and other personnel on operating procedures, resolving system malfunctions, and providing technical information. Reviews and approves designs of structural components, or direct modifications of truck components to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications. Independently represents Liebherr to customers and suppliers in diverse situations. Plans multiple projects in parallel including resource allocation. Competencies
