DESCRIPTION

Michael Baker International is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Technical Manager to be a part of our Mechanical Engineering Design Team in San Diego. In this role, you will primarily provide engineering support for a variety of federal and non-federal projects. You will provide support in the preparation of RFP documents, construction drawings, and specifications according to the scope of work. You will build and maintain important relationships with the team, clients, subcontractors, and vendors.

Lead and/or contribute to the mechanical engineering design of multiple projects. Perform load and design calculations. Clearly convey information to internal and external clients. Adhere to budget and schedule of projects. Assist with defining scope of work and labor hour estimates. Use computer-assisted engineering and design software (Revit, Trane Trace, etc.) to perform engineering tasks. Develop and author project specifications. Research code, design, and detailed project specific requirements to ensure systems conform to engineering design and client specifications. Work with design-build construction partners to provide possible redesign, substitution of materials, or rearrangement of systems for cost-saving measures. Build project work plans to implement mechanical designs with multiple support staff. Build proposals for new work, as needed. Communicate directly with clients and contractors. Evaluate field installations, review compliance, and recommend modifications. Perform quality control checks of work performed by others. Propose methods for improving performance for development, standardization, and quality control. Use a professional level of written and oral communication skills. Occasional travel may be required.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

You’ll need a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university. You’ll need a minimum of 10 years’ experience in the commercial, federal, or industrial design and construction industry. You’ll need to be a licensed Professional Engineer. You’ll need to be a U.S. Citizen with no dual-citizenship. You’ll need experience in modeling mechanical designs using Revit software. You’ll need experience providing process piping design and pipe stress analysis using a variety of software (AutoPIPE, Caesar, AFT Fathom, etc.). You’ll need digital literacy in the Microsoft Office Suite. It would be a plus if you were an active member of ASHRAE, ASME, and/or ASPE. It would be a plus if you have experience using AutoCAD.

COMPENSATION

The salary range for this position is $131,000-$200,000. This will be dependent on the experience and expertise of the incoming candidate.
