Job Description
We are seeking a Mechanical Technician to support the design, development, and implementation of novel undersea sensors. As an experienced mechanical technician, you will be expected to leverage your skills to assemble, evaluate/test, and maintain electro-mechanical sensors and equipment. You will provide feedback to the design team to help improve the assembly and maintenance of the systems, as well as aid in troubleshooting and addressing any issues the system may encounter.
ResponsibilitiesUnder guidance from staff, support development of innovative undersea sensors.Construct and fabricate parts such as underwater deployment mechanisms and large sensor networks in compliance with specifications.Assemble, evaluate, test, and maintain electro-mechanical systems including assembling various mechanical test fixtures, applying epoxies to form waterproof connectors, and participating in off-site test events at regional lakes.Perform mechanical fit checks and modifications, maintain and organize on-site tools, and ensure proper fastener torquing and staking.Develop and implement maintenance plans for the fabricated hardware.Troubleshoot and repair malfunctioning equipment.Read and interpret mechanical drawings, diagrams, and schematics.Create, modify, follow, and complete processes, documentation, build travelers, and service records.Order, track, and maintain inventory of materials, supplies, and equipment.Support and train coworkers on the safe and efficient use of mechanical machinery and equipment.Essential SkillsMechanical troubleshooting and assembly skills.Proficiency in using hand tools and mechanical assembly techniques.Experience with testing and troubleshooting electro-mechanical systems.Ability to read and interpret blueprints and mechanical diagrams.Knowledge of epoxies and repair techniques.Additional Skills & Qualifications2-year mechanical, technical, or related degree, or equivalent experience.Minimum 2 years of demonstrated experience assembling, installing, maintaining, testing, and repairing prototype R&D systems.Familiarity with tools and parts used in assembly and test of electro-mechanical hardware, including power tools and epoxies.Eligible for US Secret Clearance.Experience with 3D printing and/or 2-part epoxy/potting compounds is preferred.Work Environment
The position is 100% onsite in Arlington, VA in the Lab. The team consists of 20 people engaged in R&D work, requiring comfort with minimal processes built out.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $60.00/hr.
