Mechanical Technologist Lead

The Dow Chemical Company is looking for a highly motivated, self-directed, experienced person to fill a Mechanical Technologist Lead position in the Critical Rotating Equipment Group of the Louisiana Operations Technical Support Organization in Plaquemine, LA.

About you and this role - What you will do in this role

The overall purpose of this role is to leverage rotating equipment expertise throughout the businesses of the Dow Chemical Company. This role exists to provide technical knowledge and skill in the repair of rotating equipment throughout the Louisiana Operations site. This role is part of the Critical Rotating Equipment Team aligned to the Technical Expertise and Support Organization. The successful candidate will provide technical support for the repair of most types of rotating equipment such as turbines and compressors. The Mechanical Technologist must leverage knowledge of rotating equipment and systems to ensure the most effective and safely executed repair work. 

Responsibilities - Duties, projects, tasks, and activities you would be responsible for in this role

Implements solutions to resolve chronic/repeat failures.Performs, together with crafts or operators, advanced troubleshooting on equipment issues and repairs.Coaches crafts and operations personnel on appropriate repair and operations practices respectively.Develops procedures and quality control plans with the necessary repair details such as: clearances, tolerances, materials of construction and welding procedures. Ensures their consistent usage.Assists Turnaround front end loading with job scoping, parts inspection and procedure validation to ensure successful asset renewal and reliability improvement.Develops maintenance procedures based on Most Effective Technology (MET).Mentors other maintenance team members in core job responsibilities, common repairs, advanced repairs.Individual must be physically able to work in the field including but not limited to climbing ladders, scaffold, stairs and lifting (Not to exceed 50 lbs.) Individual must possess a certain degree of manual dexterity.Must be proficient with mechanical test and repair equipment (i.e. alignment tools, dial indicators, micrometers, etc.)Must be proficient in all phases of mechanical equipment repair and replacement.Some night or weekend work will be necessary depending upon plant needs.

Qualifications - Required education, experience and abilities that are needed for this role (must haves)

A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED is required.8 or more years of Plant Maintenance experience.A valid U.S. driver’s license.A minimum amount of travel for training or equipment support is required.Willing and able to work a "4-10" work week: 10 hours a day work schedule Mon - Thu or a 9-80 schedule (9 hours a day and every other Friday off) with extended work hours when necessary.Must possess a TWIC card or be eligible to obtain a TWIC card. Preferred Skills:

An Associate's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Technology or related field.4 or more years of experience as a Journeyman Millwright with heavy industrial machinery repair & replacement.Communication Skills: Must have strong written and verbal communication skills. This position will interact with all levels of employees, disciplines, and functions in daily activities.Procedure Development and Quality Control: Skills in developing detailed procedures and quality control plans, including specifications for clearances, tolerances, materials of construction, and welding procedures, and ensuring their consistent application.Technical Skills: Specific technical skills or knowledge of certain software or tools such Microsoft applications and computerized programs for job and reporting requirements (i.e. Word, Excel, SAP, etc.)Advanced Troubleshooting: The ability to perform advanced troubleshooting on equipment issues and repairs, often working alongside crafts or operators to diagnose and resolve problems.Mechanical Aptitude: Proficiency with mechanical test and repair equipment such as alignment tools, dial indicators, and micrometers, as well as expertise in all phases of mechanical equipment repair and replacement.
