We are seeking Mechanical Engineering Intern to join a product development group in Milpitas, CA to help develop an innovative wafer inspection tool.
Position Description & Responsibilities
We are looking for a Mechatronics Engineering student expecting to graduate in 2025-2027 who is hands on, highly motivated, and a team player. The candidate will join a world class team of engineers and scientists working on a next-generation electron beam microscopy for the semiconductor industry. The candidate will be expected to tackle a project scoped to be completed during the summer term. The project will involve working with high-precision semiconductor inspection equipment. The intern will work directly with multi-axis stages, precision positions, position sensors, and motion controllers. Tasks will include characterizing stage motion and developing novel methods to calibrate stage motion. The candidate will be expected to identify new positions sensors for use in stage characterization and to develop methods to use sensor output to improve the accuracy of stage calibration and motion control. The candidate will be expected to design components and test stands as needed, provide solutions to challenging problems, and effectively transition results to the group for continued experiments or integration.
Requirements:
We are looking for creative, self-motivated engineers who are interested in contributing to new technology development and solving cutting-edge technical problems. Ideal candidates will have the following competencies.
Good oral and written communication, organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to demonstrate ownership of work tasks, comfortable driving mechanical design projects within a team
Strong engineering fundamentals and analytical problem-solving skills in the area(s) of mechatronics, mechanical, and/or electrical engineering.
Collaboration with cross-functional teams to determine design requirements, implement best design practices, and achieve functional product design solution.
Recommended skills
Experience in several of these areas is desirable:
Mechanical/product design experience in 3D CAD software. (PTC Creo preferred)
Control theory and mechatronics, including characterization of motion control dynamics, bandwidth, and stability
Hands-on experience with precision motion control actuators, sensors, and controllers
