Your role and responsibilitiesAs a Mechanical Engineer in Traction, you are responsible for the mechanical design of converters, energy storage systems and cooling units for railway and heavy on or off-road applications. The products are used worldwide in rail vehicles, e-buses and e-trucks or construction machines. To strengthen this motivated team, we are looking for a committed and experienced mechanical design technician with interest in power electronics.The work model for the role is: OnsiteYou will be mainly accountable for:• Perform mechanical design of power converters and control equipment according to customer specifications and engineering guidelines; Conduct project reviews meetings and present design solutions, identify risks, improvement opportunities, validate solutions and drawings. • Produce technical specifications and guidelines for mechanical designs, field work, modifications; Provide engineering support to production and quality teams to resolve all engineering inquiries.• Provide engineering consultancy and address technical queries from suppliers and customers, guarantee project deliveries are met, ensuring timely resolution and the customer satisfaction; Collaborate with the supply chain and vendor functions to meet contractual requirements. • Perform product lifecycle management in compliance to standards; includes bill of materials, engineering drawings, data sheets; Influence and share best practice in engineering disciplines, looking to enhance mechanical department performance and ability to deliver quality solutions; Assist the sales department during the concept and quotation phase.Our team dynamics You will join a dynamic, talented, high performing team, where you will be able to thrive.
Qualifications for the roleBS in Mechanical engineering. Minimum 5 years’ experience in design and manufacturing of power electronic systems; design of electrical enclosures and cabinets; and, sheet metal design. Welding knowledge of steel and Aluminum structures (preferred not required). Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and systems block diagram. Knowledge of 3D CAD software (Creo parametric), PLM (Windchill) and ERP system (SAP preferable). Solid English skills, German is preferred Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.
