Position Summary: The Medical Physics Resident is a clinical training position for those who have obtained proper graduate degrees in medical physics. The length of the training program is two years. The training is divided into clinical rotations over the two years of residency, as detailed in the Residency Program Handbook. One supervisor is assigned to oversee the progress for each rotation and will coordinate with other staff physicists and departmental staff to cover the training topics. The resident will work under the supervision of a qualified medical physicist for each rotation. Clinical activities are inclusive of, but not limited to, monthly, daily, and annual QA, machine commissioning, treatment planning, dosimetry, chart checking, SRS, SRT, SBRT, IGRT, Brachytherapy, imaging technology, and radiation safety. At the end of the residency, the Resident Program Committee will decide on whether to award the Certificate of Completion to the Resident. Recruiter: Sarah Grey || sgrey1@covhlth.com || 865-374-5271 Responsibilities + Performs image registration, image fusion, and dose reconstruction for patients receiving external beam radiation therapy. + Performs monthly linear accelerator calibration and quality assurance following the most recent Medical Physics Practice Guidelines (MPPG). + Performs monthly CT simulator quality assurance following the most recent Medical Physics Practice Guidelines (MPPG). + Performs and/or reviews conventional and Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy external beam treatment planning with the Radiation Oncologists, Medical Physicists, and/or Medical Dosimetrists. + Performs patient-specific quality assurance, including but not limited to Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy, In-Vivo Dosimetry, and Electron Cut-Outs. + Provides clinical guidance to the radiation therapists during the simulation, respiratory gating and image-guided radiation therapy process. + Performs weekly continuing physics (i.e. Chart Checks and Patient QA) following the most recent Medical Physics Practice Guidelines (MPPG). + Assists in brachytherapy treatment planning, HDR quality assurance, and HDR Delivery. + Assists in Stereotactic Radiosurgery (e.g. GammaKnife) and Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy treatment planning, quality assurance and delivery. + Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested. + Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Minimum Education: M.S. or Ph.D. degree from a CAMPEP accredited Medical Physics Graduate Program, or certificate from a CAMPEP accredited Medical Physics Certification Program.
