The Media Services Technician I will provide technical media support services to the Institute of Fine Arts (IFA) community including equipment repair and installation, event support, and equipment delivery and retrieval. Operate a wide variety of media equipment including specialized equipment requiring significant training. Operate equipment during special events. Assist with pre-installation or pre-event surveys and consultations, discussing with customers their media needs and media capabilities and advising them on the equipment that would best meet those needs. Perform routine maintenance and basic repair of equipment. Please note this is a M-F shift from 3pm-8pm.
The Institute of Fine Arts is a thriving center of advanced research and graduate teaching in art history, archaeology, and art conservation. Principal Duties
Operate a wide variety of media equipment including specialized equipment requiring significant training (e.g., PA systems, lighting, audio and video consoles, video recorders/players, overhead/slide projectors, microphones, and other multimedia equipment). Operate equipment during special events. Observe all appropriate procedures and standards.
Assist with pre-installation or pre-event surveys and consultations, discussing with customers their media needs and media capabilities and advising them on the equipment that would best meet those needs. Provide cost and time estimates to support customer decision-making.
Perform routine maintenance and basic repair of equipment; clean equipment, check for malfunctions, and repair and replace basic parts. Contact vendors as necessary to make arrangements for warranty repairs or complex repairs.
Assist with client pick-up service operations; sign out equipment to faculty, enter order/requests into scheduling system, etc. Maintain inventory and order supplies as needed.
Monitor access to and maintenance of permanent audio-visual installations and portable inventory. Ensure physical condition of equipment is maintained; identify and document non-routine conditions and assist with resolving malfunctions, etc.
Respond to inquiries and provide information regarding services, equipment, policies, procedures, etc., resolve routine problems, and refer more complex problems to supervisor or appropriate department member. Answer telephones, screen calls, and take messages.
Ensure security of equipment. Maintain cleanliness of work area, quality control, and safety standards.
Assist with delivering and retrieving equipment as needed. May also assist or cover for Dispatcher as required.
Give equipment demonstrations and provide training to faculty, staff, and other users upon request. Qualifications
Required Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent and some relevant technical training
Preferred Education:
Relevant technical background and/or certification.
Required Experience:
1+ years Related experience. Experience providing customer support.
Preferred Experience:
Experience providing related technical support in a high volume environment.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of and ability to operate a wide variety of media equipment. Ability to operate basic office equipment. Ability to work both independently and in a group setting. Ability to take initiative.
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the hourly rate for this position is USD $34.829. This rate is based on bargaining unit contracts. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
