Job Description
The Medical Advisor represents the affiliate’s medical/scientific voice of expertise for assigned products and relevant therapeutic areas. Provides medical expert advice and guidance to key stakeholders for assigned products and relevant therapeutic areas, including scientific exchange and professional relationship development with key thought leaders / external experts. Provides scientific input into Medical Affairs strategies for the affiliate medical department and commercial plans, as required, and medical / scientific support for medical department activities under the overall direction of the Affiliate Medical Director. Provides medical affairs support to cross-functional affiliate teams. The Medical Advisor role is fully integrated to support the strategy and execution of affiliate business, while being functionally independent whilst ensuring compliance with all applicable national laws and regulations, guidelines, codes of conduct, AbbVie’s policies and procedures and accepted standards of best practice.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
+ Develop and maintain comprehensive knowledge of assigned products and therapeutic areas through key meetings, congresses, seminars, and self-study of literature review.
+ Provide expert medical advice for assigned products and therapeutic areas, addressing scientific/technical queries and ensuring the accuracy of medical documents and dossiers (i.e. pricing and reimbursement dossiers, HEOR dossiers, medical information packs, clinical expert reviews etc.).
+ Build and maintain credible professional relationships with key thought leaders / external experts and academic centers by participating in scientific events, coordinating advisory boards, round-table meetings etc.
+ Conduct scientific presentations and medical educational programs for healthcare professionals and key stakeholders, either individually or in groups (meetings, clinical sessions, etc.).
+ Screen and analyze relevant literature and information from relevant scientific conferences, societies and meetings; summarizing key messages for company use. (e.g. key areas of scientific/company interest, new trends in diagnosis, monitoring and treatments in the therapeutic area, etc.)
+ Review and prepare promotional material. Ensure the scientific content is correct and fully compliant with local requirements and AbbVie’s internal policies and guidelines.
+ Design and implement clinical research projects within defined standards and budgets (e.g. Phase IV, post marketing clinical activities, and PMOS studies), providing the required oversight to manage review, approval and conduct of IIS studies.
+ Support the affiliate Clinical Research Department in the management of clinical studies, as appropriate (e.g. review new clinical study protocols, identifying potential investigators/sites, conducting feasibility surveys).
+ Deliver training to sales forces and other departments; develop and update relevant training materials.
+ Provide medical input into marketing strategy and key commercial initiatives, as required. Monitor the environment for competitive intelligence and communicate, where appropriate, within the Company.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS & WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
+ Advanced scientific degree (ideally MD, PharmD or PhD in relevant field).
+ 2 years of strong clinical background including medical affairs experience in a biopharma or pharma environment.
+ Scientific expertise and prior experience in the Hematology TA will be considered an asset.
+ Demonstration of business acumen to act as a business partner, allocating resources to maximize impact and making smart tradeoff decisions.
+ Experience being an active contributor to cross-functional teams and/or working in matrix organizations will be an advantage.
+ Experience with plan development in alignment with strategic initiatives. Experience in product launch is desired.
+ Good understanding of local market access, regulatory environment and evidence needs, driving the asset value proposition to cover the gaps identified cross-functionally.

+ Excellent Knowledge of the English Language.
