 The University of Miami/UHealth Department of OBGYN has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Medical Assistant 1 to work in Miami, FL. The Medical Assistant assists in the examination and treatment of patients, under the direction of a physician. Moreover, the incumbent interviews patients, measures vital signs, and records information on patients' charts. The Medical Assistant also draws and collects blood samples from patients and prepares specimens for laboratory analysis.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS                                                                                                  

Gives injections and treatments and performs routine laboratory tests.

Assists in patient care activities such as dressing changes and leg wraps.

Prepares treatment room for examination of patient.

Assists with physical examinations by preparing supplies and handing instruments and materials to the doctor as directed.

Provides patients with basic instruction and information regarding examination procedures.

Cleans and sterilizes medical instruments while observing principles of sterile technique.

Schedules patients for tests and completes required forms for laboratory work.

Maintains accurate and complete patient records and documentation.

Orders, stocks, and inventories supplies, and assists in performing clerical duties.

Escorts and transports patients to various hospital locations.

Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Department Specific Functions                    

Obtains vital signs and patient information for inclusion in the patient's medical record.

Assist attending physicians with In-Vitro Fertilization and inseminations

Assist attending physicians with minor surgical procedures, annual and follow up gynecological exams such as pap-smears, cultures, endometrial biopsies and pelvic exams.

Provides patients with basic instruction and information regarding examination procedures.

Ability to work weekends as per schedule

May serve as a lead to Medical Assistants or assist with their training.

Ability to communicate effectively (both verbally and in writing).

Knowledge of sterile techniques and special procedures that are applicable to work performed (will be trained on proper disinfection of any applicable instruments and disinfecting rooms in between patients).

Knowledge of infection control procedures and safety precautions.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and clinic staff.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS                                                                                                         

High school diploma or equivalent.

Graduate from an approved Medical Assistant educational program recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE).

Active - American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS)

No previous experience required.

Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.

Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
