The Clinical Translational Research Site is currently seeking a full time Medical Assistant 2 to work in Miami. The Medical Assistant 2 performs a variety of routine duties, with more complexity, in a hospital or clinic to assist medical and nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients. This role demonstrates advanced skills and expertise in a variety of work processes, while working as a team lead coordinating the work of others and providing quality review/performance improvement.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
Obtains vital signs and patient information for inclusion in the patient's medical record.
Administers injections or treatments, performs routine laboratory tests, and assists in other patient care activities, such as dressing changes and leg wraps.
Prepares treatment room for examination of patient.
Assists with physical examinations by preparing supplies and handing instruments and materials to the doctor as directed.
Provides patients with basic instruction and information regarding examination procedures.
Cleans and sterilizes medical instruments while observing the principles of sterile technique.
Schedules patients for tests and completes required forms for laboratory work.
Maintains accurate and complete patient records and documentation.
Orders, stocks, and inventories supplies and escorts and transports patients to various hospital locations.
Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Department Specific Functions
Confirm valid signed and dated informed consent for each research participant from P.I. and/or their representative before beginning any part of the study.
Provide direct research participants hands-on care in conducting the clinical study components according to the protocol (e.g., phlebotomy, frequent blood or another sampling, anthropometric measures, etc.).
Assist with scheduling participant appointments to the CTRS sites and coordinating visits with other professional services.
Measuring and recording vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, pulse, etc.).
Assisting the physician or nurse with examinations and minor procedures.
Preparing and maintaining examination rooms.
Responsible for accurately collecting, handling, preparing, and shipping research specimens as required by the individual study protocol.
Responsible for providing complete and timely reporting of pertinent clinical findings and results to PIs and/or study physicians.
Act as liaison between CTRS site and study participants, Investigators, and/or study personnel.
Maintain accurate site documentation, including physician orders, nursing flowsheets, samples, and shipment logs.
Participate in Site Initiation Visits (SIV) as required by the study team and/or sponsor.
Attending CTRS In-Services for study protocols and team meetings.
Maintain cost-effectively an appropriate inventory of clinical supplies for each CTRS site.
Submit required and requested documentation in a timely and complete fashion.
Review/onboard clinical research protocols - laboratory manuals.
Maintain compliance with the University of Miami and all Governing agency guidelines, policies, regulations, and requirements.
The position requires mobility across different buildings within walking distance.
Completes mandatory education and training that includes a review of specific needs and other competencies required by the University of Miami and UHealth system and other pieces of training. – ULearn, Citi Training, Bio Safety, Lab Safety, OSHA, HIPPA.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent
Certification and Licensing:
Certified Medical Assistant Certification as a CMA, RMA, or CCMA
CMA- Certified Medical Assistant; Administered by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
RMA- Registered Medical Assistant; Administered by the American Medical Technologists (AMA)
CCMA- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant; Administered by the National Health Career Association (NHA)
Experience:
Minimum 3 years of relevant experience
