The Medical Assistant performs select procedures, treatments and other duties under the direction of a licensed provider. This position provides medical assisting duties to facilitate the flow of patients and support the health care provider. This position is also responsible for the office and support coordination for a physician practice including patient check-in and check-out, registration, billing, medical records, referrals, etc. Medical Assistants demonstrate a high regard for the dignity and respect of all patients, family members, visitors and hospital personnel and support the Patient’s Bill of Rights. Medical Assistants also maintain harmonious working relationships and clear communication practices for purposes of continually improving patient care.

Responsibilities
Prepares exam and treatment rooms including instruments, supplies and protective devices for exam and testing. Greets all patients and visitors entering the office. Communicates with service areas (e.g. laboratory, radiology, etc.) and providers to effectively manage patient and provider flow. Registers and discharges patients accurately. Maintains proficiency with clinical information systems and electronic medical records.Obtains and documents vital signs and measurements. Documents patient complaints and concerns. Gathers documentation from prior patient encounters and diagnostic tests to ensure completeness prior to provider’s visit.Maintains stock supplies, and cleans and sterilizes instruments in accordance with infection control and manufacturer recommendations.Establishes appropriate referrals in a timely manner. Communicates effectively with patients, GFH providers, and external providers to ensure appropriate care coordination. Assists in resolving patient complaints or concerns.Performs specimen collection including venous or capillary phlebotomy according to established protocols. Performs EKGs according to protocols. Prepares patient and performs routine procedures and treatments including, but not limited to, clean dressings, enemas, etc.The Impact You Can Make
