Description:Position Title: Medical Assistant Department: GCC- Woodlands Purpose: Supports and participates in the provision of safe, effective and culturally competent care for clinic patients under the supervision of the practitioner. Clinical duties include: escort patient to exam room, take and record vital signs, conduct patient history interviews, prepare and assist physician during exam/procedures, administer medications excluding high risk drugs, set up/clean patient rooms, maintain inventory, restock supplies and notify patients of laboratory results. Administrative duties include: answering telephones, greeting patients, manage medical records, assists patients with payments, billing, insurance and registration. Handles mail and filing of all correspondence. Performs other duties directed by charge persons and/or manager. Report To: Site Supervisor Supervisory Responsibility: No Supervision: The job does not require the provision of guidance or supervision to others. There is no formal responsibility for directing others. Materials Responsibility: Very Limited. Work requires very limited responsibility for material resources. Examples of resources could include personal work materials, supplies or equipment, or very small amounts of cash. The employee has a very limited or indirect amount of control over these resources. Although human error might require the repair or replacement of materials, usually the cost of correcting these errors is minor. The variety and volume of resources is also very limited. Problems associated with material resources are very uncomplicated. Key Relationship: Co-workers/Health System Employees, Outside Agencies/Other Health Care Providers, General Public/Visitors/Volunteers, Physicians/Medical Office Staff, Patients, Families, and Significant Others POSITION SPECIFICATION Education: High school plus additional course work up to 1 year Field Of Study: Medical Assistant Special Training: Basic Life Support. Pharmacology course and/or medication administration as part of course curriculum, medical terminology, keyboarding and computer experience. Training Preferred: ICD, CPT Coding, Immunization training Licensure/Registration: Certified or Registered Medical Assistant within 12 months. Experience: More than 1 year experience required. Interpersonal Skills: Interaction is with a variety of people inside or outside the organization. Communications are of moderate difficulty and sensitivity. Contact with others may involve detailed & lengthy dialogues & exchanges of information. Requires a moderate amount of interpersonal skills. Interactions involve dealing with moderately complicated problem situations or stressful encounters. Working Conditions: There is limited exposure to moderately adverse and undesirable environmental conditions. There are some health and safety risks. Position may require safety equipment and precautions. The amount of time the employee may experience these moderate conditions is limited to 35% or less of their work day.
