Responsibilities

The purpose of the apprenticeship position is gain on the job training to learn the skills and knowledge to become a Certified Medical
Assistant (MA-C). Upon successful completion of the program you will be eligible to sit for the CCMA MA-C exam. The program
will give you tools and resources needed to be able to successfully pass the exam.

This Medical Assistant Apprenticeship is a structured, on-the-job training program designed to provide individuals with the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to become a competent and certified Medical Assistant. Under the direct supervision of experienced medical professionals, the Medical Assistant Apprentice will learn and perform a variety of clinical and administrative tasks, gradually increasing responsibilities as proficiency develops. This apprenticeship program combines hands-on experience with structured learning modules to ensure a comprehensive understanding of medical assisting principles and practices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities may include: (Under Direct Supervision):

Assisting physicians and other healthcare professionals with patient examinations and procedures.

Taking and recording patient vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, height, and weight).

Preparing patients for examinations, including positioning and draping.

Administering injections and medications as directed by a physician and within scope of practice (after proper training and certification).

Maintaining examination rooms and stocking supplies.

Documenting patient information accurately and completely in electronic health records (EHR).

Providing patient education and instructions as directed by the physician.

Assisting with wound care and dressing changes.

Performing electrocardiograms (EKGs).

Answering telephones and scheduling appointments.

Greeting patients and verifying insurance information.


Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Proficiency in reading, writing and speaking English
Proficiency in the use of computer programs and equipment utilized in a clinic setting (ie, electronic medical record, web-based training programs, etc)
Current HealthCare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association
6 months VMFH work experience and recommendation of their leader

External candidates must have one of the following:
6 months healthcare experience OR completion of a healthcare program approved by the WA Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission such as a CNA program, OR Running Start with 4 healthcare related classes
