Medical Assistant — Cast Technician

Cleveland Clinic's Orthopaedic & Rheumatologic Institute offers expert diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation for adults and children with bone, joint or connective tissue disorders. A caregiver in this position works 7:30am/8:00am—4:00pm.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Assist in transporting and rooming patients as needed.
Prepare patients for exams and special procedures.
Gather information related to health maintenance and specimen collection and documents patient care given, updates health maintenance at patient visit, accurately identifies medication changes and updates allergies at each visit.
Monitor and communicate changes in patient condition.
Initiate CPR and emergency measures as required.
Remove dressings, sutures, and staples. When necessary, measures, applies, changes, and removes casts, braces, and splints for patients.
Apply and instruct patients in the use of durable medical equipment.
Provide health education to patients and families.
Maintain examination areas, equipment, and medical supplies, including reordering, stocking, cleaning, and troubleshooting.
Facilitate the smooth operation of the outpatient clinic desk.
Assist in pre-visit planning, update of health maintenance tab.
Perform administrative or clerical duties as assigned, including filing, reception, scheduling, data entry and patient registration.
Coordinate resident and nursing cast application in-service programs and presentations.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High School Diploma or GED.
Military training as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered.
Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant Program.
Completion of clinical externship.
Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) must be obtained during new hire period.
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
MA Certification.
One year of experience as a Medical Assistant or in a related patient care field requires casting experience.
Successful completion of Cleveland Clinic Externship.

Physical Requirements:
Manual dexterity to operate office equipment.
May require extended periods of standing, walking or sitting.
Good visual acuity through normal or corrected vision.
Light Work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects.
Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible.
Note: The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace, especially in an industrial setting, can be and is physically demanding of a worker even though the amount of force exerted is negligible.
