HealthPartners North Suburban Family Physicians has an exciting opportunity for a Medical Assistant (LPN/CMA/RMA/EMT) to join our team! This .65 fte position will be based at our Roseville clinic with potential for coverage at our Lino Lakes and Hugo clinics.
The schedule for this role is as follows:
Tuesday 7:45am – 4:15pm
Thursday 8:45am – 6:15pm
Friday 7:45am – 5:15pm
The Medical Assistants at North Suburban Family Physicians are responsible for a variety of duties including:
Perform functions that support/provide patient care:
Patients are roomed according to rooming and/or clinic guidelines. Vital signs and other pertinent physical measurements are obtained and recorded accurately. Medication and clinical procedures are administered (according to authorized policy and demonstrating proficiency) and documented according to North Suburban Family Physicians policy. This may include DISCUS or AIMS assessment. Charts are reviewed for the presence of pertinent information relevant to today’s encounter. This may include Prepared Practice work as developed by the team. Needed and requested health educational materials are provided to the patient and documented. Patients and their records are handled in a private and confidential manner per North Suburban Family Physicians policies. Seek medical and/or nursing assistance when encountering an acutely ill patient or a patient with a changing condition. Exam rooms and treatment rooms are prepared for examination of the patient and set up for procedures. Patient is prepared for medical interventions. The exam/procedure room is prepared, and the provider is assisted as needed. Charts are prepared and station records maintained which may include the following: MSRs are checked for completion and routed appropriately. Lab, x-ray and miscellaneous forms are prepared when requested. Drug refills are processed according to clinic protocols. Station logs, (i.e., pap, pathology, etc.) are monitored as assigned. Prepare charts for patient appointments as indicated by the type of clinic visit and the reason for the appointment according to established practices and procedures. Facilitate timely and accurate flow of communication within the clinic/location. Messages and test results are accurately received and relayed to the appropriate person/location in a manner consistent with clinic practices and/or standards. Gathers all necessary and appropriate information from a caller and relays information to the appropriate provider for necessary follow-up. Reception desk is informed of provider’s schedule status. Will assist in coordination of urgent and non-urgent provider schedule changes to ensure patient and provider needs are met. Patient correspondence performed when requested. Patients are assisted in completing forms when appropriate.Cleaning and sterilizing procedures support infection control and OSHA standards.
Instrument and equipment are prepared and sterilized according to procedure. Complete scheduled cleaning requirements for the designated work areas. Document completion of work to comply with infection control and OSHA standards. Implement other infection control procedures as needed. Adhere to protective clothing requirements.Clinic supplies are adequately stocked and well organized.
Ensure that department inventory requests are processed and delivered in a timely manner. Responsible for supply requisitions according to clinic procedures. When receiving supplies, equipment and other authorized deliveries, check merchandise against packing slip and report all damages and discrepancies. Prepare returns for shipment with all appropriate documentation. All designated areas are stocked adequately. Expiration dates are routinely checked. Outdated supplies are removed and/or replaced. Maintains prescription sample supply cabinet as per clinic/location protocol.All equipment is properly maintained, and adequate records are kept.
An inventory of instruments and equipment is kept current. Instruments and equipment are calibrated as needed and maintained in proper working order. All maintenance is documented.Maintain current or compliant status as determined by the appropriate accrediting body. You must let your Supervisor and Human Resources know if your certification/registration status changes.
The Medical Assistant may work at any of the North Suburban Family Physicians clinic depending on clinic need.
Perform other duties as assigned.
This position requires:
High School diploma or GED FOR LPN: Graduate of an accredited nursing program and current LPN license in Minnesota FOR MA: Graduate of an accredited MA program OR Graduate of an accredited EMT program and current EMT License FOR RMA: Graduate of an accredited MA program and current Registration through AAMA or AMT FOR CMA: Graduate of an accredited MA program and Current Medical Assistant Certification through AAMA or AMT Current BLS/CPR certification for health professionals through the American Heart Association or Red Cross required within 90 days of hire and maintained throughout employment. On-line CPR certification is not acceptable Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including appropriate use of English grammar and spelling Demonstrated ability to function with multiple priorities and interruptionsPreferred requirements include:
Current Medical Assistant Certification or Registration through AAMA or AMT At least six months recent (within the last 3 years) experience in a direct patient care setting Computer skillsPhysical requirements include:
Must possess speech, hearing and sight skills to perform the functions of the position. Must be able to speak, read and write English proficiently. Body mobility, coordinated dexterity of hand, ear and eye, sensory acuity and verbal ability to perform the functions of the position. The ability to work walking, standing, and/or sitting for prolonged periods of time. The ability to lift, carry, bend, reach, squat, kneel on an occasional basis. The ability to read, analyze and collect data.
