Medical Assistant- Pediatrics

Position Summary: Assists in the provision of quality health care by performing a large variety of patient care activities such as preparing patients for visits, assist in basic procedures, and enhancing patient flow. Supports department activities by performing duties such as maintaining inventory stock and laboratory supplies, completing regular safety checks, and cleaning and sanitizing relevant surfaces and materials. The Medical Assistant (MA) will perform various office and clinical duties to keep the department running efficiently. Records and inputs pertinent data into the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and reports abnormalities to Health Care Provider. 

Critical Tasks: 

Performs a variety of pre-exam activities such as receiving patient, determining chief complaint, and reviewing medical history.Assists in patient check in by collecting important patient information such as health, weight, temperature, pulse, and blood pressure.Oversees patient checkout process and implements medical orders. Maintains EHR through the regular collection and entry of relevant data.Analyzes collected data for abnormalities to report to Health Care Provider.Assists in procedure preparation by sanitizing exam rooms, replacing paper sheets, replacing soiled instruments, and organizing tools and equipment.Facilitate basic office procedures; obtaining consents, participating in pre-procedure time outs, and assisting the provider in procedures. Will provide supervised wound care and dressing changes. Tracks inventory stock and laboratory supplies and replaces items as necessary. Carries out basic lab draws and medical tests and packages for processing by laboratory.Administers intramuscular injections, immunizations, and over-the-counter medications under direction of a physician.Coordinates transportation of patients to healthcare facilities and ensures that facility receives relevant patient information.Follows directions during urgent care situations to assist in any way possible.Performs other job-related activities as requested.

Required Qualifications: 

High school diploma or GED required. 1 year experience of patient care preferred. Current and valid Medical Assistant certificate from an approved and accredited program. Current and continuing BLS training and certifications within 90 days in position. Demonstrates ability to relate to diverse cultures and specifically the Gila River Community or other Native American cultures and community health services.
