PRN Medical Assistant

The Medical Assistant (MA) will be responsible for the coordination of direct patient care activities and providing clinical support to providers within one of our clinical practices.

Duties include but not limited to the following: check in patients, obtaining vital signs (height, weight, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, temperature) and medication reconciliation, patient medical history information, expediting patient flow, rooming patients, stocking clinic with supplies, navigating electronic health record system (EPIC), scheduling and following-up with appointments and assisting with medication fill and refill requests, checking for prior authorizations and scheduling tests, procedures and consultations.  May also perform other procedures such as EKG, phlebotomy, lab tests and injections (once competency has been assessed).

The MA will communicate with pharmacies, insurance companies, patients and physicians in a respectful manner and will uphold Baptist’s mission and core values that drive service excellence.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Manages the coordination and flow of patients throughout the patients visit to create an exceptional patient experience.Proactively check the provider’s schedule and review information within the patient record to ensure that all required information is available prior to their visit.Proactively obtains any missing information from the patient to ensure that medical records are accurate and up to date, which helps to ensure better care is being provided.Upon arrival, captures patient’s vital signs, past medical, social and family history, medication usage and preferred pharmacy information.Ensures compliance with all state and federal regulatory requirements including HIPAA/OSHA compliance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities based on Training and Certification Scope:

•          Able to respond to patient call backs and phone in prescription refill requests.

•          Able to administer medication and injections, as directed by Physician/Provider

•          Able to perform phlebotomy on patients, as directed by the Physician/ Provider

•          Able to perform EKG’s, PFT’s spirometry, nebulizer treatments and ear irrigations, and other procedures, as required by the practice and directed by the Physician/Provider

•          Able to perform in-office lab testing such as glucose testing, strep screens, pregnancy tests, urinalysis, and HgA1c as directed by the physician/provider.

•          Able to perform sterilization on instruments used for minor procedures/surgeries according to the CDC recommended guidelines.

•          Maintains all certifications/licensures as required by the scope of the role being performed. 

Minimum Requirements:

High School Diploma or General Education EquivalencyBasic computer skills, specifically with navigating within databases containing highly confidential information, plus.Basic Life Support and other advanced training as appropriate to be received within 90 days, plus one of the following:Prior working experience in a medical office/clinic performing clinical MA duties.

Upon hire these disciplines will be assessed for clinical competency and be required to successfully complete an MA orientation | externship as well as complete any additional training as required by the Provider.

Or a Certified MA from the National Health Career Association (NHA).Upon hire these disciplines will be assessed for clinical competency and be required to successfully complete an MA orientation | externship as well as complete any additional training as required by the Provider.Or completed any MA education program, but has not received certification as of yet.Upon hire these disciplines will be assessed for clinical competency and be required to successfully complete an MA orientation | externship as well as complete any additional training as required by the Provider.

Preferred Requirements for Certified Medical Assistant:

Current MA Certification from AAMA, AMT, NAHP, NCCT, AAMP.Or graduate of an accredited LPN or RN program with current Licensure without restrictions.Basic computer skills, specifically with navigating within databases containing highly confidential information.Basic Life Support and other advanced training as appropriate, within 90 days.
