Job DescriptionThis position is a Medical Assistant role tied to a provider. The role involves a mixture of clinical duties and administrative scheduling tasks.
ResponsibilitiesCall patients from the reception area and prepare them for examination.Take vital signs, draw blood, and give injections as requested.Reconcile allergy lists, medication lists, and smoking status of patients.Perform HCG, urinalysis, rapid strep tests, cultures, process in-house lab results, and outbound tests, as well as INRs in the absence of the department manager.Conduct EKGs, PFTs, nebulizer treatments, apply oxygen as needed, assist with pap exams, perform ear lavages, and administer immunizations and other injections as ordered.Chaperone when appropriate and assist during treadmills, colposcopies, minor surgeries.Maintain clean, well-equipped examination rooms and clean and sterilize instruments.Stock examination rooms, triage area, and work station with medical supplies for the designated team.Perform phone triage, complete team tasks, paperwork, and faxes.Scan upcoming appointments for additional medical record information necessary.Obtain medical records from other physician offices, hospitals, labs, emergency rooms, and radiology prior to patient visit.Participate in all staff meetings, education lectures, and quality improvement activities.Follow protocols related to infection control, environmental safety, and patient confidentiality.Complete annual recertification for Blood Borne Pathogens, HIPAA Compliance Training, Respiratory FIT, and IT Policy.Maintain current CPR certification and any updates relating to MA Certification.Perform other duties as assigned.Essential SkillsCertified or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA or CMA).Experience with scheduling, surgery, dermatology, and plastic surgery is preferredAdditional Skills & QualificationsHigh school diploma plus successful completion of a Medical Assistant program and certification.Completion of BLS class and re-certify every 2 years.Work Environment
Working within the surgery department. Standard office hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, with a 30-minute lunch.
