Medical Assistant - Vascular Access and ProceduresThe Vascular Access and Procedures Medical Assistant position at MD Anderson Cancer Center offers a unique opportunity to be part of a world-renowned institution dedicated to cancer care. In this role, you will provide essential support to the clinical team by assisting with vascular access procedures, ensuring patient comfort, and maintaining the highest standards of care. Working closely with physicians and nurses, you will play a critical role in facilitating treatments for cancer patients, while contributing to a collaborative and compassionate environment. Experience in a Surgical and/or Procedural area (ICU, PACU, OR, etc.) is a plus!

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Clinical & Patient Care/Coordination Skills
Consistently & competently demonstrates proficiency taking patient vital signs & accurately entering onto medical record, hard copy or electronic. Accurately & proficiently collects procedure pertinent patient information and appropriately collate as hard copies or enter into EHR; in all assigned areas of the department Accurately identifies variances in lab values according to department designated parameters and notifies appropriate staff (RN/Mid-level provider/MD/RT). Demonstrates proactive initiative to complete role responsibilities i.e. triaging requisitions, screening incoming calls, document pre/post patient information, removes intravenous lines according to training protocol, if applicable Maximizes procedure room utilization by providing procedure room turnover/transfer assistance, including cleaning of procedure room & equipment if so assigned Maintains patient safety through compliance with Institutional policies and Joint Commission regulations Consistently demonstrates appropriate Infection Control practices according to Institutional policy Flexes shift & area according to department operational needs
Technical Skills
Appropriately uses designated system to track patients according to identified department steps Accurately applies & enters appropriate CPT codes & modifiers for technical charges Accurately & appropriately uses the E&M calculator to enter appropriate charges if necessary Appropriately, independently navigates ultrasound machine to accurately enter patient demographics Consistently, independently & appropriately demonstrates sterile technique when sets up sterile trays and assists in procedures with minimal supervision Consistently complies with Department specimen handling protocol & Universal Protocol process Participates in departmental rotation for Zip Rounding, Safety 365, TRB Provides stocking of supplies support, maintaining designated parts, & reports expired supplies to V&P Leadership Daily equipment maintenance (i.e. ultrasound machine, Trophon, Bovie machine, Tip Locating System, etc.) Promptly reports equipment errors/malfunctions to a member of the Leadership Team and initiate ticket for repair with Biomed or 3-5000 Assist providers with department procedure(s) and other delegated tasks
Communication Skills
Confirms patient scheduled appointments, communicating clearly & professionally, according to designated telephone etiquette script Consistently takes initiative to clearly communicate variances in lab results, lab needs, and patient related concerns Clearly reports all patient related concerns/variances to appropriate team Consistently maintains professionalism when interacting with others Fosters a positive team environment through the consistent use of positive, respectful, & professional dialogues Appropriately utilizes communication system
Education
Required: High school diploma/equivalent.
Preferred: Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant program or US Military medical services training program.
ExperienceRequired: One year of medical assistant experience. Preferred Education: Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant program or US Military medical services training program. With preferred degree, no experience is required.
