Job Description

The Medical Communications Specialist will work with the Medical Affairs team and other cross-functional units to ensure that Allergan Aesthetics successfully supports and leads the market with respect to education and training initiatives. As an internal medical/technical/scientific resource, you will have the opportunity to influence Allergan customers and ultimately impact the success of the business. 

The role is responsible for medical writing to create high-quality materials and content and to play a crucial role in the development of high-quality medical and scientific content that supports the Allergan Aesthetics facial injectable portfolio. The role also encompasses capability development, adapting for emerging technologies and ensuring materials are compliant, consistent, efficient, future fit and aligned with customer needs.

This role may also require occasional travel to attend conferences or internal meetings.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Convert relevant data and information into a form that meets project requirements and explains data in manner consistent with the target audience(s) and requirements for the project.Work collaboratively with AMI, marketing, medical and learning and development teams where required to foster and drive effective and compliant approaches to material development, ensuring consistent messaging across materials originating from different departments.Ensure cross-functional teams understand requirements to ensure information and processes used in material development align with compliance requirements.Provide expert Medical guidance in cross functional process development and application of novel technologies and platforms.Support Associate Medical Director to optimise material approval agility.Conduct gap analyses and consistently review performance to maximise KPIs within processes.Manage multiple writing projects simultaneously, ensuring all timelines and deadlines are met and negotiating with functional areas on project outcomes and deliverables to meet conflicting demands Identify and resolve conflicts (including document content issues), remove barriers and generate innovative ways to ensure teams achieve project goals.Provide linking and referencing support in Veeva Promomats and Medcomms where required Ensure new starters obtain adequate training on the materials review systems, and that existing users receive ongoing learning and reinforcement of requirements and best practices.Work with the Associate Medical Director to ensure availability of up-to-date materials resources to support internal stakeholders.Provide comprehensive specialised information, training, and advice to internal stakeholders on material development processes, industry codes and regulations.Provide, in collaboration with Medical Advisors, advice to support commercial stakeholders with material and claims developmentProvide scientific information to key stakeholders for the Allergan Aesthetics portfolioSupport consistency of materials, including messaging, claims and supporting evidence, across the businessReport any adverse event within 24 hours as per Allergan’s policies and procedures.Support Allergan’s Quality Management System and internal auditing processes.Proactively participate in AbbVie’s WHS programs, adhere to policies and promote a safe work environment at all times.Adhere to Allergan’s / AbbVie’s internal codes of conduct and compliance processes.Other ad hoc duties such as administrative duties, as requested.
Qualifications
Pharmacy or life sciences degree required. (Masters or PhD in science discipline preferred).Experience in the use of Veeva PromoMats, MedComms and Content Central required.Minimum 5 years of post-qualification work experience; experience working in pharmaceutical or medical related industry, overseas education or work experience desirableMinimum 2 years’ experience working in a medical affairs team in the medical device or pharmaceutical science industryPrior healthcare advertising agency experience is highly desirableRelevant medical writing experience (minimum 2 years) highly desirableIntermediate skills in Microsoft Suite, particularly PowerPointKnowledge and understanding of the relevant Industry Codes of Conduct/Practice relating to review of promotional materials and activitiesStrong analytical skills, with ability to critically evaluate and effectively communicate key clinical data.Ability to quickly learn and communicate clinical and non-clinical technical information effectively to individuals with varying degrees of scientific acumen.Ability to work cross-functionally in a matrix structure, supporting multiple stakeholders.Strong project management skills with ability to lead an internal project team.Understanding of digital/multichannel/social media/systems.Ability to analyse, interpret and communicate medical literature and additional supporting evidence to audiences with varying medical/scientific understanding.Demonstrated ability for problem solving.Training and presentation skills.
