Day in the Life of a Medical Laboratory Technologist

Receives specimens and performs specimen accessioning, checking specimen adequacy per requirements.

Prepares reagents and organizes supplies as necessary.

Performs pre-analytic checks and maintenance as necessary or assigned recording inappropriate records.

If requested, employee to assist in training of employees (laboratory or client) if a new procedure or specimen requirement change is added to lab test menu.

Performs all testing for which there is validation of performance and appropriate skill level.

Performs all quality control testing, verifying and result recording.

Maintain all required written records, to include records of action taken as necessary.

Enter results as appropriate for practice.

Store all reagents and supplies; organize the work area as necessary.

Perform all necessary and assigned inventory duties.

 Schedule

Monday-Friday; 8:00am-4:30pm

Education and/or Experience

Associate degree and at least 2-3 years experience in a clinical laboratory setting

Current MLT ASCP certificate, or equivalent, preferred.
