We are offering an opportunity to undertake a crucial role to support our large Chemistry service at two of Londons busiest teaching hospitals. This role offers an insight into the world of procurement where you will be managing stock which is a vital part of service operation.You will learn to use various software programmes and will be hands on when deliveries arrive into the laboratories. Main duties of the job This is a band 3 MLA post with particular responsibility for stock management within the Chemistry department at GSTT. The successful applicant will liaise closely with the Viapath Procurement Team to ensure stock is ordered and receipted appropriately. You must be organised and good communication is an absolute priority.Whilst you will be based at St. Thomas, you will on occasion work at Guys Hospital. Detailed job description and main responsibilities As a Medical Laboratory Assistant, the post holder is responsible for the receipt and organisation of reagents and consumables within the department. The post holder will be responsible for unpacking and booking in External Quality Assurance (EQA) samples, distribution to the various analytical areas, data entry, ensuring results are submitted on time, reports printed and distributed to the senior staff, as well as any clerical and administrative duties associated with the various schemes. The post holder will manage and prioritise workloads in the area and be expected to highlight any potential problems that are apparent on EQA returns. There will also be an opportunity for undertaking work within the laboratory such as: receiving and sorting of patient specimens, logging patient data onto the laboratory computer system, tracking specimens between hospital sites, operating pre and post analytical equipment, giving validated laboratory results by telephone.They may be required to work Extended Hours covering the hours of 8am to 8pm.
