Job Description

The Medical Laboratory Scientist is responsible for specimen processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient results. The role involves sending specimens to reference laboratories for tests not performed in-house and processing incoming orders for lab testing, including reference laboratory specimens. The scientist will perform specimen analysis for Hematology, Coagulation, Chemistry, and Urinalysis, ensuring accurate and efficient blood sample analysis. Maintaining and operating all laboratory equipment and adhering to quality control policies are key aspects of the role.

ResponsibilitiesPerform specimen analysis of Hematology, Coagulation, Chemistry, and Urinalysis.Perform analysis of blood samples in an efficient, accurate manner.Maintain and operate all laboratory equipment.Adhere to laboratory quality control policies.Participate in proficiency testing.Prepare smears and perform manual differentials.Process specimens for reference laboratory testing.Maintain adequate supplies and reagents.Use EMR and LIS systems.Perform phlebotomy and sample collection procedures as needed.Essential SkillsExperience in Hematology, Chemistry, and specimen processing.Knowledge of ASCP, Med Tech, and Laboratory procedures.Proficiency with EMR and LIS systems.Ability to perform phlebotomy and sample collection procedures.Additional Skills & QualificationsMedical Laboratory Technician certification.Medical Laboratory Scientist certification.Experience in Hematology.Phlebotomy skills.Work Environment

The work environment is a clinic setting with working hours from Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. There are no weekend or night shifts, and the clinic is closed on all major holidays. The clinic sees around 60 patients per day, and the Medical Laboratory Scientist will be the main phlebotomist from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM when the last phlebotomist leaves, performing about 10 draws. The team consists of providers, schedulers, phlebotomists, infusion nurses, and patients, fostering close relationships with patients.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $28.00/hr.
