Summary of Job Duties:A Medical Laboratory Scientist III-Lead in the core section is experienced in laboratory testing in the areas of hematology, coagulation, immunology, chemistry and/or special chemistry in a hospital setting and fulfills all the responsibilities and tasks of a MLS I and II as well as assessment of new equipment, research, special projects, regulatory/accreditation readiness as well as managing resources of staff and supplies to meet workload needs on assigned shifts.
Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor of Science Degree in chemistry, biology, medical technology, or medical laboratory science.2 years of experience working in a clinical laboratoryASCP or equivalent certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Medical Technologist (MT), or discipline specific certification (C, H). Experience working with personnel including scheduling rotations, making decisions on staffing in the absence of Supervisor, temporarily adjusting work flow as needed to assist in critical situations, assigning breaks for staffing to meet departmental needs.

​Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in relevant program (MSOM,MLSH,MBA,MHA)Specialty certification in a core lab section discipline. CITI and/or DOT certification. Knowledge of current testing methods in use in the UAMS Core Lab Sections. Knowledge of CAP and accreditation regulations.

Ensures staff are trained and competent in their duties, maintains current training and competency reports, and identifies improvement areas for training individuals or department. Interviews and hires new applicants, manages personnel issues, and completes performance reviews.Oversees daily operational activities. Serves as the technical resource to staff during working and non-working hours. Maintains sufficient and current knowledge of technical procedures, policies, and applicability or respective regulations and standards. Educates staff on technical principles and regulatory requirements. Identifies, develops, and implements quality and process improvement projects.Reviews records and approves data for accuracy and completion. Write and reviews technical standard operation procedures and policies. Oversees all required activities related to quality control, proficiencies testing, supply availability, and equipment maintenance and functioning. Provide patients with safe, high quality care. Compiles data for dissemination.Performs other duties as needed.
