Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Laboratory Technician

We are seeking a Night Shift MLT/MLS to join our team at UPMC St. Margaret!
Applicants should have six months of clinical laboratory experience if they come from a non-traditional background or should be recent graduates of accredited MLT or MLS programs. While one year of experience and ASCP certification is preferred, we welcome new graduates. Candidates should be willing to work evening shifts in departments such as hematology, urinalysis, coagulation, chemistry, and specimen processing, and will support Microbiology stat testing and blood bank. Additionally, applicants must demonstrate the ability to perform differentials on peripheral blood smears and body fluid specimens.
**UPMC St. Margaret is excited to offer a Night Program for MLT/MLS:**
+ For working night shift, you may receive an additional $2/hour on top of the off-shift differential ($2) for actual hours worked within the night program guidelines.
+ Eligible participants must be in a laboratory professional role in a regular full-time or part-time status, and work in a department that requires 24-hour on-site coverage.
+ Laboratory professionals who have completed their orientation period and have at least six months of experience are eligible to participate.

Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS): $15,000 with a 2-year commitment
Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT): $10,000 with a 2-year commitment
The MLT/MLS is a valued step in UPMC Labs Career Ladder. The final candidate will be placed in the appropriate title and pay rate depending on education and experience.
**Responsibilities:**
+ Interact courteously and professionally with all laboratory customers; respond to telephone inquiries promptly.
+ Adhere to laboratory and hospital policies regarding procedures, quality control, safety, compliance, and personnel.
+ Follow procedures for specimen collection and processing, ensuring sample appropriateness and stability.
+ Perform qualitative and quantitative analytical procedures accurately and efficiently.
+ Recognize and follow up on critical, abnormal, and unacceptable test results; initiate corrective actions as needed.
+ Identify and resolve issues with instrumentation, methodology, specimens, supplies, or results.
+ Operate and maintain equipment, perform quality control checks, preventive maintenance, and minor repairs.
+ Maintain knowledge of techniques, principles, instruments, and physiological conditions affecting test results.
+ Conduct or assist with test development, methodology/equipment evaluation, selection, and implementation.
+ Train and orient new employees, students, and residents; assume temporary supervisory responsibilities as delegated.
+ Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university AND successful completion of an accredited Medical Lab Scientist program,
+ OR Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, or clinical laboratory science AND ASCP or equivalent categorical or MLT certification,
+ OR Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science AND at least two years' experience in a role equivalent to that of a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) in a clinical laboratory.
+ Prefer 1 year experience in a hospital laboratory.
+ Knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory information systems preferred. **Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:** Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) (ASCP) or equivalent certification preferred. New York License required for NY locations.
