Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or (MT)

Must meet the qualifications and requirements listed in Section IV of the HCFA-114 for the level of testing performed. 

An Associate’s degree in Medical Technology is required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties or task may be requested or assigned by immediate supervisor, his/her designee, or other management/supervisor.

Provides for receipt and ordering of tests

Assesses specimens and order acceptabilityPerforms computer functions, (entry, edit and cancellation and billing of tests)Processes specimens according to departmental policies and procedures

Provides for performance and documentation of tests

Performs tests according to department policies and procedures.Performs computer functions (i.e. inquiry, edit, results entry, transfusion data entry, specimen cancellation, billing etc.)Review test results to ensure accuracy before release.

Provides for Quality Control/Quality Assurance

Performs equipment startup, calibration, and reassess as required.Performs inventory, receipt, preparation/modification/processing, shortage, and or disposal of supplies, reagents, and or blood products.Performs preventive maintenance, reagent, and instrument and/or blood component quality control.Reviews and monitors equipment quality control results.Assures that backup instrumentation is maintained and ready for useFollows occurrence management process for variations.

Area Management

Calibrates and cleans equipment to manufacturer’s specifications.Monitors equipment or malfunctions and makes adjustments as required.Assist with keeping Laboratory clean and well-stocked.Inventories supplies and maintains adequate supplies. Rotate stock and monitors expiration dates.Enters Charges daily.
