Medical Laboratory Technologist

Position Summary: Performs a variety of laboratory tests to provide health care providers with information required to accurately diagnose patient conditions. Verifies the proper functionality of laboratory instrumentation and equipment to ensure quality results. Maintains accurate patient data and appropriately labels laboratory samples to ensure reliable test results.


Critical Tasks: 

Performs laboratory tests in chemistry, hematology, immunology, toxicology, and microbiology to provide health care providers with vital information needed to accurately diagnose patient conditions.Performs regular duties of a phlebotomist by drawing blood samples from patients and ensuring accurate labeling, dating, and recording of samples.Verifies proper equipment function by performing routine maintenance and troubleshooting, calibrating instrumentation, and documenting equipment condition to ensure quality results.Assists in the training of new employees to support an effective workforce.Regularly reviews lab test results and identifies and communicates abnormal patient results to physicians, nursing staff, or laboratory leadership.Maintains, updates, and verifies patient information, laboratory logs, and reports in order to ensure reliable data and test result tracking.Reports disciplinary issues, patient or customer complaints, and unsafe conditions to the Laboratory Supervisor or other leadership to ensure resolution.Assists in the updating of department policies and procedures.Performs other job-related activities as requested.

Required Qualifications: 

Associate’s Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a closely related field of study. 1 year of Clinical Laboratory experience preferred. Certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or as an American Medical Technologist (AMT) within 12 months of hire. Demonstrates ability to relate to diverse cultures and specifically the Gila River Community and/or other Native American cultures and community health services.
