Job Description

The Medical Laboratory Technologist reports to the Charge Technologist of the Advanced Diagnostics team.

Accountabilities:

Responsibilities within this modality include but are not limited toPerform the range of tests and procedures related to immunohistochemistry and molecular pathologyPerforming, interpreting and releasing resultsAssisting with the evaluation and implementation of new technologyEnsure that the work of assigned staff meets quality and safety standards; identifies opportunities for improvementPerform projects, validations and proficiency testing as directed by charge  technologist or director

QualificationsMedical laboratory technologist with CSMLS certificationCurrent registration with CMLTO in good standingImmunohistochemistry or molecular testing experience is an assetRecent work experience with clinical gene technologies includingDNA/RNA extraction from various sample typesNucleic acid sequencingNext generation sequencingProficient with single-gene testing by point-of-care PCRExperience with quality assurance, quality control testing, quality assurance assessments and accreditationProficient in immunohistochemical testing (e.g. antigen retrieval, staining, etc.) according to strict protocols and guidelinesExperience in antibody validation and implementationProficient with embedding and microtomyProficient with sample preparation and nucleic acid extraction for gene sequencingSuccessful completion within the past two years of continuing education courses focused on immunohistochemistry and molecular testing preferableExperience with histology instrumentation an assetStrong ability to multitask, be flexible, and responsive to conflicting prioritiesExcellent organizational, interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills requiredExperience coordinating workflow and prioritizing in a fast-paced environmentDemonstrate excellence in organization and time management skills to meet deadlinesDemonstrate mature judgment and initiative and ability to effectively problem solveProven ability to work in a team environment; able to work independently as requiredMust possess strong motivation skills as well as being self-motivatedProven dedication to continuing education and continuous learningMust demonstrate Osler's Values of Respect, Excellence, Service, Compassion, Innovation and CollaborationExcellent attendance and punctuality recordCommitment and accountability to positionAbility to work and travel between all Osler sites as needed
