Job Description

Accountabilities:

Accessions specimens; investigates non-conformances on irretrievable specimens prior to processing and according to laboratory protocolsGrossing of specimens which includes examining, describing, dissecting, and measuring of small and small/big gross surgical specimens of varying tissue typesEmbeds processed tissue; checks embedding log and investigates errors/discrepanciesCuts paraffin wax tissue blocks using microtome; makes, labels, stains and cover slips slides as appropriateOperation and maintenance of IHC stainers and other equipmentFrozen sectionsCorrelates cut slides to tissue blocksCuts deeper levels as requiredFiles and archives slides and blocksAssist with MLA duties as required

QualificationsMedical laboratory technologist with CSMLS certificationMinimum five years recent experience in general histology in a hospital settingImmunohistochemistry experience is preferredCurrent registration with CMLTO in good standingAbility to distinguish colorsComfortable dealing with surgical and autopsy specimens and the deceasedStrong medical terminology is requiredStrong multi-tasking, critical thinking and problem-solving skillsExcellent organizational and communication skills; strong interpersonal skillsProven ability to be a team player; able to work independently with minimal supervisionKnowledge of LabLion, Meditech, Paradigm and other Microsoft Office  computer system would be an assetMust demonstrate Osler's Values of Respect, Excellence, Service, Compassion, Innovation and CollaborationExcellent attendance, punctuality and work ethicRequired to travel between and work at all Osler sites

Additional Information

Two (2) positions to fill

Hours: Currently Days/Evenings/Nights, including weekends and statutory holidays and must be available to attend Osler sites after hours and during emergencies (subject to change in accordance with operational requirements)
