Job Description
This role's primary function is to ultimately provide information for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease by conducting medical laboratory tests, procedures, experiments, and analyses.
ResponsibilitiesPrepare cultures of tissue samplesEstablish and monitor programs that ensure data accuracyMicroscopically examine slides of bodily fluidsCross-match blood for transfusionsChemically analyze blood or urine for toxic componentsOperate and calibrate equipmentDeliver test results to physicians, researchers, or patientsCollect and study blood samples to determine morphologyDetermine normal and abnormal components of body fluids by conducting chemical analyses of samplesAnalyze cells by counting and identifying cells, using microscopic techniques and proceduresPrepare plasma and platelets for transfusions by conducting blood group, type, and compatibility testsEnsure operation of analyzers, spectrophotometers, colorimeters, flame photometers, and other laboratory equipment by calibrating, completing preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer's instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, calling for repairs, maintaining equipment inventories, and evaluating new equipment and techniquesMaintain laboratory supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed supplies, placing and expediting orders for supplies, and verifying receipt of suppliesConserve laboratory resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job resultsProvide medical technology information by answering questions and requestsPrepare reports of technological findings by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing informationEssential Skills1-2+ years of Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) experienceASCP CertificationAbility to think critically and communicate effectivelyComfortable navigating on a computer with good typing skillsLicense or certification requiredBachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, clinical lab sciences, chemistry, surgical sciences, or life science fieldPrevious Med Tech experience or strong undergraduate intern experienceGood interpersonal, written, and oral communication skillsAbility to work independentlyStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsStrong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize workload with minimal directionAbility to multitaskWork effectively in a fast-paced environmentAttention to detail is essentialClinical laboratory and sample processing experiencePositive attitude and passionate commitment to exceeding customer expectationsFlexible and adaptiveAdditional Skills & QualificationsPrevious hospital experience preferredWork Environment
The work environment is lab-based and provides opportunities to contribute to groundbreaking research, education, and patient care within a culture that prioritizes collaboration, compassion, innovation, integrity, and respect. The role is based in Charleston, South Carolina. Available shifts include: 10:30 AM - 7:00 PM, 12:00 PM - 8:30 AM, 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM, 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM, 9:00 AM - 7:30 PM. Second differential pay of $2.30 extra per hour and night shift differential of $3.75 extra per hour are available. All positions can be filled with a 4-year degree (MLS/MLT) or a 2-year Medical Lab Technician degree.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $22.03 - $36.00/hr.
