To date, Biogen is focused on SMA (spinal muscular atrophy), ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), and FA (Friedreich’s ataxia). The Medical Lead Rare diseases (Rare) is responsible for the Italian medical-scientific contribution and the Italian Rare medical strategy. This is an important role regarding all medical scientific topics in the respective cluster/country like; developing medical scientific presentations, one to one discussions with leading Rare experts, understanding the current status and identify opportunities for evolving Standards of care in Rare, executing medical education activities in collaboration with Rare medical scientific community, understanding the current National Rare disease registries, developing medical scientific projects and quality indicators.
The Medical Lead Rare should therefore have expertise in and knowledge of therapeutic area, patient-treatment trends, clinical trials and scientific activities within the Rare area and continuously update this expertise and knowledge. The Medical Lead Rare should be able to translate highly complex medical scientific content to tactics and have medical operation expertise /skills or experience in managing complex medical projects.

The medical lead manages a team made up of: MM, MSLs and they are responsible for the medical scientific support, the medical input to product strategy and for the core medical functions like; Pharmacovigilance, Medical Information, medical training and facilitation of medical scientific projects.
Key Management Responsibilities
Provide strategic oversight on relationships with key TLs with a solid understanding of the medical / scientific and regulatory environment in the region / countryDeveloping of the country specific medical tactical plan, including implementation of projectsDeveloping the medical scientific presentation, and communication content Supporting local affiliate approval process of all materials and documents Supporting the planning preparation and execution of national Rare Advisory BoardsSupporting execution of the medical education activities in collaboration with MSLsEnsure the coordination of timely targeting and segmentation for new therapeutic areas (e.g., ALS and FA)Facilitating harmonization/improvement of the current national Rare disease registry Partnering with Rare Leading Experts Be an active member of the regional Rare Medical team and partner in affiliate cross functional team Participate in above 'country' regional / global forum for best practice sharingEnsure collaboration with countryClinOps to evaluate requests, assess capacity, and allocate resources for clinical trials when MSL support is required.Leadership of MSL and Medical Manager Team

Providing medical training for local affiliate and medical project support primarily to MSLs and other local affiliate functions like V&A, CE&O, PAG management, Marketing,. Any safety related information concerning Biogen products (adverse event / suspicion on adverse event etc.) must report to the Affiliate Safety Designated Staff in accordance with current internal company rules. Any quality related information concerning Biogen products (product complaints / product defects / suspicion on product defects / falsified medicinal products etc.) must reports directly to the Manager, Quality & Governance in accordance with current internal company rules.
