Medical Monitoring for Research Studies
**Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):**
Professional and/or academic certification commensurate with monitoring of arterial catheters in human research participants includes, but not limited to, Certified or Registered Respiratory Therapist, Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner or Medical Doctor. At least one (1) year of full-time healthcare experience.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
Experience in placing venous or arterial catheters and general phlebotomy procedures. Experience in a research environment. Medical Imaging research experience.
**Brief Description of Duties:**
The successful candidate will participate in the conduct of research experiments involving Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging of human research subjects. PET is a non-invasive imaging technology used to trace biochemical processes. Subjects will be administered a minute quantity of a radioactive probe intravenously. Scanning experiments last between one and several hours. The incumbent will prepare the subjects prior to their entering the scanner. Specific duties may include ensuring the comfort of research participants, placement of venous catheters and assistance in placing arterial catheters in the forearms of research subjects including administration of local anesthetics as part of the procedures (candidates may obtain training in these procedures if they do not have prior experience), monitoring these during scanning experiments, drawing blood samples during scanning experiments, helping to prepare the samples for analysis, removing the catheters at the end of the experiments and treating the puncture sites. Scanning experiments will take place up to several times per week.
**Duties:**
+ Prepare the subjects prior to their entering the scanner.
+ Assist in placement of arterial catheters, placement of venous catheters, and removing them at the end of the experiments.
+ Monitoring the research subjects during scanning experiments.
+ Drawing blood samples during scanning experiments.
+ Assist in the preparation and maintenance of documents pertinent to scanning experiments.
+ Other duties as assigned.

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Non-Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
