Position Purpose
As the hospital Birth Registrar, prepares and submits maternal and health care data, birth and fetal death certificates as required by CT. Dept. of Public Health accurately and timely.
What you will do
Obtain the necessary information on newborn, mother and father.
Provide written information to unwed parents regarding benefits and responsibilities of Parentage, according to Connecticut state laws
Articulate to parents the rules for declaring paternity and naming baby
Prepare certificate of birth/fetal death; obtain all required signatures
Abstract information from medical records and enter/update data into computer systems and submit to the CT Dept. of Public Health
Minimum Qualifications
High School Graduate or equivalent. Associates Degree in Health Information Management or presently enrolled in a Health Information Technology program or similar degree preferred
Two or more year’s analytical and/or clerical experience in an acute care setting required. Previous health-related experience working in an EHR preferred
Knowledge of medical terminology, requirements for complete medical records, HIPAA and privacy regulations required
