Medical Records Correspondence Technician
Job Summary:MaineGeneral Health is seeking a Medical Records Correspondence Technician to join our team! This key position performs a combination of clerical and technical duties related to the processing and release of medical records. You’ll play an important role in ensuring that information is handled securely, accurately, and in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

Job Description:

Key Responsibilities:

Review Authorization/Release of Information: Ensure that all requests for the release of medical information are accurate, complete, and compliant with relevant laws.Respond to Requests for Information: Handle medical record requests in accordance with state and federal regulations, applying principles such as “minimum necessary” and “need to know.”Track and Document Releases: Maintain accurate records of all released information and track requests for proper documentation.Prioritize and Process Requests: Respond to and prioritize requests for medical information promptly to ensure timely processing.Serve as a Resource: Provide guidance to staff regarding policies and procedures for medical information release.Collaborate with Legal Department: Assist in responding to subpoenas, court orders, and maintain medical legal documentation, such as guardianship orders and advance directives.

Qualifications:

Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) is preferred.Proficiency in medical record systems and knowledge of HIPAA compliance.Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and manage multiple priorities.Excellent customer service and communication skills, both in person and over the phone.Experience in a fast-paced office or medical records environment is a plus.
