Position Purpose:


Mercy Care is seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Medical Referral Specialist to support our pediatric patients. This role is essential in ensuring seamless coordination of specialty referrals, helping to connect children with the care they need. By working closely with healthcare providers, patients, and external specialists, the Medical Referral Specialist facilitates timely and effective treatment while advocating for vulnerable populations.

What You Will Do:

Manage pediatric patient referrals, ensuring timely scheduling and follow-up.

Assist providers in coordinating specialized services such as speech therapy, physical therapy, and occupational therapy.

Communicate with patients and caregivers to explain referrals, provide appointment details, and assist in overcoming barriers to care.

Accurately document referral details in the electronic medical records (EMR) system and track progress.

Collaborate with medical, behavioral health, and administrative teams to enhance patient care coordination.

Advocate for patients by ensuring they receive the necessary specialized care within Mercy Care’s network.

Minimum Qualifications:

Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple referrals.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and documentation.

Ability to work effectively with diverse patient populations, including those experiencing homelessness or mental health challenges.

Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office and/or EMR systems.

Preferred: Prior experience in healthcare, social services, or patient advocacy; familiarity with community clinics; bilingual skills.
