Kite, a Gilead Company, is an organisation engaged in the development of innovative cancer immunotherapies with a goal of providing rapid, long-term durable response and eliminating the burden of chronic care. About the role:

The Medical Scientist (MS), Medical Affairs, is an important role in our business responsible for ensuring the safe and appropriate use of Gilead therapies and leading scientific exchange with the medical and scientific communities for the therapeutic areas we support.  Reporting to the Associate Director, Medical Affairs, you will support the delivery of the Medical Affairs Plan of Action working in close partnership with core cross-functional brand team members to ensure the success of the portfolio.  In addition to appropriately sharing key data and information to help your customers make informed clinical decisions for their patients, you will also identify key high-impact insights in the field to inform ongoing brand and disease area strategy.

This is a field-based role that requires regular travel locally, nationally, and occasionally internationally (approximately 80% time in field).

Key Job Responsibilities:  

Ensure the safe and appropriate use of Gilead therapies and lead scientific exchanges with the medical and scientific communities

Facilitate the validation and setup of cell therapy sites and improve the standard of clinical care for patients living with cancer

Scientific Exchange:

Serve as an external scientific expert in the therapy area, healthcare landscape, and data on Gilead and competitor therapies.

Serve as company ambassador to professional societies, academic & research centres, patient & advocacy groups, and at national & international scientific meetings.

Develop and present complex scientific and clinical data on Gilead medicines and related therapy areas.

Coordinate and answer complex responses to clinical inquiries from healthcare professionals.

Represent Gilead with the external multidisciplinary scientific and HCP community, through scientific engagement, group presentations, advisory boards, conferences, and other activities as required.

Obtain external insights to inform brand and disease area strategy.

Appropriately discuss concepts and coordinate the submission of investigator-sponsored research proposals.

Strong presence with ability to influence internal and external stakeholders through exercising sound business judgement and clear decision-making.

Ensure all business activities are executed in line with company policies, procedures, and global and local guidelines.

Ensure all behaviours and activities are in accordance with Medicines Australia Code of Conduct.

Strategic stakeholder engagement:

Identify (and review/revise) key clinical influencers in the therapeutic area

Establish and grow impactful relationships, maintaining a focus on key internal stakeholders and key opinion leaders locally and nationally.

Communicate effectively and influence a diverse range of stakeholders, both internally and externally.

Site Validation & Setup

Work closely with other field-based employees and head-office staff to proactively support cell therapy sites nationally

Partner with Clinical Operations and provides insights into investigator and site selection for Gilead/Kite trials

Provide clinical trial recruitment enhancement activities at clinical trial sites and referral centres

Implement defined goals and objectives aligned with indication strategic plans

Support the training of affiliate staff on therapy area and data relating to Gilead/Kite therapies

Ensure all behaviours and activities are in accordance with Medicines Australia Code of Conduct

What you will bring to the role

You will be an experienced medical scientist, ideally within the research-based biopharmaceutical industry from a company with a specialised therapeutic portfolio, who thrives in an environment that encourages empowerment and accountability.  You will be a self-driven collaborator, with an innate curiosity and deep motivation to achieve.

Experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry (>5 years).

Hematology Therapeutic experience preferred.

Functional experience in field medical affairs is required.

Aptitude to understand complex scientific issues, identify key clinical implications, and communicate salient points to varying audiences required.

Capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously and effectively prioritise workload required.

Ability to work with a high level of autonomy and independence required.

Adherence to all regulatory, legal, and business conduct requirements required.

Capacity to travel locally, nationally, and internationally when required (approximately 80% in field).

Requires a BA or BS degree, preferably in the sciences or business-related disciplines, with master’s or Postgraduate qualifications highly desirable.

This role is based in Sydney.
