**Job Description**

**Position: Medical Scientist (Medical Affairs – Oncology)**
**Overview:**
This field-based Medical Scientist will serve as scientific expert for Gilead´s oncology therapies and reports to the Oncology Associate Director. This professional will establish and maintain strong scientific relationships and disseminate clinical information about Gilead’s innovative products for the treatment for oncology to thought-leaders, academic institutions, healthcare professionals, and professional organizations.
**Principle Roles and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:**
+ Implement defined goals and objectives aligned with the Medical Affairs Plan of Action and other strategic initiatives.
+ Develop plans for cultivating and maintaining working relationships with existing and future thought leaders in assigned geographic territory.
+ Participate in advisory boards, symposia, and educational programs, such as speaker training sessions and clinical conferences when requested.
+ Member of the Oncology Brand Team to help develop wider cross-functional activities in line with brand strategy.
+ Participate in planning of national and international meetings, congresses, and symposia.
+ Ability to travel to support the LAMS Oncology Medical team, occasionally with short notice.
+ Serve as a medical resource to Gilead’s Oncology Therapeutic Specialists
+ Collaborate with colleagues across other functional areas.
+ Support the development, deployment, and appropriate use of field tools and resources (e.g., slide decks)
+ Complete required administrative and training procedures in a timely fashion (expense reports, documentation of interactions)
+ Adhere to all applicable pharmaceutical codes and Gilead policies.
+ Exhibit Gilead’s core values: integrity, teamwork, accountability, and excellence.
+ Support Medical scientific portfolio information regarding therapeutic area and for the product related questions according to data and clinical trials.
+ Support the data generation and data publication strategy, research, and collaborative studies internal and external, collaborating with the feasibility sites for future clinical trials, for clinical operations teams.
+ Deliver the insights and medical information according to the health care professionals (HCPs) visited and engagement according to the visits for territory planning.
+ Support the oncology portfolio data dossier for HEOR value messages and deliver timely for the stakeholders and regulatory meetings involved.

Demonstrates a deep level of knowledge and understanding of the science behind the relevant disease state, unmet needs, and current and future treatment.
Maintains a comprehensive awareness of and understanding about current “real world” clinical evidence, HEOR drivers, and emerging trends in treatments.
Demonstrates the ability to differentiate Gilead’s products and pipeline relative to our competitors’ products and pipeline in compliance with local guidelines.
Demonstrates a clear understanding of Gilead’s clinical trials and Phase IV study design and how potential investigator-sponsored studies align with Gilead strategy.
**Scientific Communication**
Conducts meaningful scientific discussions and communicates complex scientific information and data in an organized and efficient manner.
Proficient in conducting thorough and accurate evidence interpretation to develop effective scientific communication strategies and address data gaps.
Responds to inquiries in an unbiased and timely fashion, and presents data in a scientifically rigorous, fair/balanced manner relative to Gilead and/or competitors’ products and pipeline always in compliance with business conduct policies.
Skilled in adapting to diverse audiences by defining appropriate objectives and tailoring scientific communication to meet the specific needs of both the audience and the situation.
Applies effective listening, presentation, and facilitation skills to ensure optimal outcomes of all interactions/communications with both individuals and groups.
Presents oneself in a professional manner and applies sound judgment in both oral and written communication across all levels within Gilead and external organizations.
**Healthcare Landscape Awareness**
Keeps current on emerging trends in the healthcare industry, health policies and medical practice, focusing on those factors that have the most significant impact on assigned accounts.
Understands the global, national, regional, and account-specific implications around cost efficacy/value data and their impact on patients, providers and payers.
Demonstrates strong analytical skills; effectively synthesizes, analyzes, and communicates insights and recommendations derived from a broad range of interactions and information sources.
Uses knowledge of Gilead’s products, competitors’ products, and the broader healthcare landscape to anticipate and address external stakeholders’ needs.
**Strategic Relationship Building**
Continually and appropriately cultivates relationships and extends one’s network with a broad array of key external stakeholders, including Healthcare Professionals, members of Guidelines Committees (both treatment and reimbursement), health authorities, and patient advocacy groups in order to support the safe and effective use of Gilead products.
Recognizes the diversity of needs and applies best practices when interacting with different types of opinion leaders (OLs) (i.e., Academic Researchers, Medical Directors, Pharmacy Directors, practitioners, other)
Can gain repeat access to OLs by consistently adding value based on a thorough understanding of the needs of each account/OL.
Establishes key internal relationships with colleagues across Gilead (e.g., Market Access, Managed Markets, Marketing, Sales, Medical Information, Clinical, other) and connects external parties with the right contacts within Gilead in order to explore innovative ways to improve the health of patients.

**Qualifications and Experience:**
+ Advanced medical/scientific degree (MD, PhD, PharmD) with experience in the pharmaceutical industry or related healthcare field required.
+ A minimum 3 years of relevant experience in a medically related endeavor (i.e. solid tumor diseases, clinical oncology), with strong knowledge of the drug development process and Oncology Epidemiology and management of Public Policies.
+ Demonstrated ability to work independently.
+ Capacity to develop and deliver high-quality presentations is essential.
+ Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills required.
+ Affinity for a collaborative, team-oriented environment, and approach; ability to network and partner with internal and external stakeholders, including medical thought-leaders, academic institutions, and medical societies.
+ Excellent project management and organizational skills, including the management of multiple priorities and resources. Deliver key performance indicators (KPIs)
+ Skills to translate the scientific expertise and knowledge to achieve the identified business goals of the company.
+ Fluency in English.
+ Ability to travel 70% - 80% of the time (depending on the geographic area), occasionally with short notice.
