Overview
The Medical Simulation Specialist (MSS) assists with coordinating, facilitating, planning, and executing the operational and technical aspects of simulated research activities. these activities include education and training surrounding the simulation environment for the military client. The MSS is instrumental for the operational and technical proficiency with aspects of simulation operations, SOP development, equipment maintenance, intra-agency support, rapid troubleshooting, applicable implementation, and repair of the simulation labs’ equipment. they must be familiar with medical terminology and simulation modalities including human and canine patient simulators, task trainers, associated medical equipment, and computer/audiovisual systems.
Responsibilities
Develop and execute research simulations that effectively allow for technology and human performance assessments Prepare and set up simulators, peripheral equipment, and simulated environment prior to data collection events, demonstrations, and VIP visits Serve as simulator operator, proctor, and/or facilitator while executing developed scenarios with research staff, ensuring all simulation equipment is prepared and operational prior to evaluation Provide continued recommendations that support continued simulation equipment and technology advancement related to medical simulation, audio/video, teleconference, and information technology Assist with educational device and technology training within the simulated scenario and determining medical interventions required for thorough assessment and evaluation Support and assist in role player training & education, environmental realism, and moulage application Maintain and update inventory of supplies and equipment Conduct ongoing maintenance of all simulation equipment and environment for optimal performance Assist with professional writing to include research proposals, protocols, abstracts, and manuscript publicationsQualifications
Bachelor’s degree in simulation, Technology, Education, Healthcare, or applicable discipline and 5 years of experience OR 11 years of relevant progressively responsible experience in lieu of education 3 years of experience in simulation operations/education/training, preferably with human patient and canine simulator platforms Experience with human subject research and military environment (preferred) 1 year of experience in direct patient care within a hospital or clinical setting (preferred) Ability to map clinical, educational, and operational processes, gather and analyze evidence-based data, and effectively present information in various forms to multiple audience levels Working knowledge of current human and canine patient simulators and simulation/audiovisual platforms. Competent in medical moulage and special effects application Ability to lift up to 30 pounds maximum with frequent lifting/and or carrying objects weighing up to 15 pounds.Certifications (optional)
Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) certification (preferred) Registered Nurse, Licensed Practice Nurse, Respiratory Therapist, Paramedic, Emergency Medical Technician, Emergency Department Technician (preferred)Basic Compensation: $110,000 - $121,000 yearly salary
The salary offered within this range will be based on the selected candidates’ skills, experience, education, market data, and internal parity. DLH may offer other rewards that may include performance incentives and program-specific awards. An applicant’s salary history will not be used to determine compensation.
