Administer, manage and direct physicians and other planning committees in the design, planning, budgeting, marketing, implementation and evaluation of Continuing Medical Education (CME) activities at Advocate South Suburban Hospital. Provide CME activities and support physician professional development based on continuous improvement in the knowledge, strategies and performance-in-practice necessary to provide excellent patient care.
Major Responsibilities:
Plans and implements education activities consistent with the expressed needs the Advocate Clinical Initiatives, the clinical departments of the medical staff, and the medical staff committees. (Cancer, Cardiac Catheterization, Ethics, ICU, Infection Control, Performance Improvement) Positively effect cancer care outcomes by assisting the Cancer Committee in the development of monthly cancer conferences that provide South Suburban Hospital with a multidisciplinary forum in which patient management issues are discussed in an educational setting. Develop site focused breast conferences where the diagnostic radiology, pathology, treatment options and the individual needs of breast cancer patients are discussed. Develop an annual site focused symposium and/or lecture series that addresses current “cutting edge” information on cancer topics. Implement CME activities that meet the accreditation criteria of the American College of Surgeons for accredited cancer care programs. In collaboration with the Medical Director of Cardiology design and implement monthly grand round programs that meet the educational needs of the Primary Care Physician and address the Advocate Clinical Initiatives regarding cardiac care at South Suburban Hospital Positively effect cardiac care outcomes by assisting the cardiac catheterization committee and the echocardiogram committee in the development of programs that : • Review difficult cases with the express purpose of developing treatment options. • Relate the indications for cardiac catheterization or echocardiograms to individual patient histories. • Correlate the patient’s clinical diagnosis with the radiological or exam findings. • Improve technique and decrease complications of cardiac catheterizations and echocardiograms. Direct the Chairman of the OB/Gyne department and the University of Illinois Perinatal Center in the design and implementation of quarterly perinatal morbidity and mortality education that will optimize perinatal outcomes and identify opportunities to make recommendations for perinatal care and systems improvement. Chair the Ethics Education Sub-committee to lead in the design and development of ethics education that meets the following objectives: • Recognize bioethical principles and concepts in their applications to ethical decision making in patient care. • Validate the importance of tolerance and appreciation of cultural and religious diversity of values in resolving ethical problems, by means of respectful dialogue. • Identify recurring ethical issues and concerns at South Suburban Hospital, and a means of accessing institutional resources and constructive procedural steps in order to address them. • Consider the unique ethical concerns and dilemmas experienced by health care professionals from multiple and various disciplines. • Demonstrate effective communication and teamwork among multiple disciplines to improve the quality and continuity of the ethical care of SSH patients and families. • Examine ways to find support and values validation for caregivers seeking to implement the mission, values, and philosophy of ASSH in their care of patients and families. In collaboration with the Vice President of Medical Management develop and implement quarterly activities that will assist the physician improve the business and professional aspects of their practice. As necessary assist other medical departments and committees in addressing the educational needs of our physicians and staffSupport the ongoing unique design of collaboration between and among disciplines. Function as a liaison to promote ongoing interdisciplinary education and discussion between radiology, pathology, surgery and medicine. Assist Radiologists in bringing diagnostic images to educational activities to enhance the learning experience and reinforce the appropriate use of diagnostic testing. Maintain a process with the Pathologists to include the discussion and presentation of gross and microscopic images related to the topics presented. (i.e. cancer conference, breast conference, perinatal M&M) In collaboration with the Vice President of Development, design medical education activities based on newly available technologies, techniques, and services at South Suburban Hospital.Program Administration Plan, administer and oversee all aspects of each activity: room setup, food, A/V setup including Pathology and Radiology and off-site program management. Plans, coordinates and conducts yearly Department needs assessment and evaluation of CME activities. Ensures that the South Suburban Hospital CME program complies with the regulatory standards of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education's (ACCME), OIG, FDA, PhRMA, and the AMA. Critically prepare and evaluate CME planning proposals for compliance with the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education's (ACCME) Essential Areas, Elements and Policies. Work in collaboration with the Advocate Health Care CME Office to ensure that accreditation criteria are met for all activities including policies for disclosure and commercial support. Assist in the determination of an annual budget based on the South Suburban Hospital CME Program annual goals and objectives. Secure commercial support through grant applications and exhibit agreements as applicable for each program. Serve as the primary contact for all commercial support, interacting with local, regional and national supporters. Facilitates honorarium and other program expenses reimbursements. Serve as an internal (Advocate System) and external (area CME Professionals) resource for CME policies, securing commercial support, and proposals. Market programs by designing posters, e-mails, faxes, flyers, calendars, brochures and internet advertising that comply with ACCME policies. Serve as program registration and confirmation contact when necessary. Maintain an ongoing database of physician information useful to marketing activities.Assist physicians and ancillary disciplines with educational requirements for credentialing and re-licensure in Illinois Maintain a CME database for physician transcripts which will include the following: • All CME category 1 and 2 activities which were presented through South Suburban Hospital. • All outside category 1 CME for which the physician has submitted a certificate of attendance. Assist physicians to prepare for Illinois State re-licensure and credentialing by compiling and distributing CME transcripts and explanations of state requirements at least once per year and quarterly in the re-licensure year or upon request. Maintain state of Illinois accreditation to sponsor education for social workers. (ethics education) Secure INA credit when the CME topics would be applicable for both.
