Summary The position is located in the Patient Admissions Section of the Patient Business Service office of the Whiteriver Services Unit. The incumbent provides registration and eligibility services which are the key point of interaction with patients to obtain and process demographic and insurance Information for Alternate Resources, Contract Health Services and private/commercial insurance. This position is located in Whiteriver, AZ. Responsibilities This position is being re-advertised to solicit additional applications. Applicants who applied previously need not reapply unless submitting updated and/or missing information. Interviews patients to obtain pertinent patient registration information; i.e. demographic and insurance information and authorization to enable the Business Office to bill for health care services provided from all alternate resources, including the non-beneficiary services. Determines the eligibility of patients seeking health care, who have not previously been treated at the facility, by obtaining the certificate of Indian blood or other documentary proof of tribal membership, according to the IHS guidelines. Identifies those patients whose health benefits are subject to prior approval to determine extent of health care for both inpatient and outpatient. Obtains and verifies the health records and the RPMS Patient Registration System for Medicaid, Medicare and private/commercial insurance eligibility information for all patients seen prior to all clinic visits. Initiates all admitting forms to complete the admission with current patient data, including the RPMS Patient Registration System. Initiates patient identification bands for all admissions. Interviews patient to obtain information to initiate a new health record and/or communicate to Medical Records to reactivate a retired/stored record. Enters all information into the RPMS Patient Registration System and prints appropriate forms. Requirements Conditions of Employment Must pass pre-employment examination. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:GS-05 Grade Level: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of tasks: Working with patient registration and patient related data management computer systems; interviewing patients to obtain demographic and third party insurance information; maintaining record confidentiality and safeguarding patient information; and creating various documents and reports using computer software. OR Successful completion of 4 years of education above the high school. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combination of education and experience what when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for the position. Only Education in excess of the first 60 semester hours is creditable toward meeting the specialize experience requirement. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for GS-05 grade level. TYPING PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENT: In addition to meeting experience requirements, applicants for these positions must show possession of the following typing skill. Applicants may meet these requirements by passing the appropriate performance test, presenting a certificate of proficiency from a school or other organization authorized to issue such certificates by the Office of Personnel Management local office, or by self-certifying their proficiency. Performance test results and certificates of proficiency are acceptable for 3 years. Agencies may verify proficiency skills of self-certified applicants by administering the appropriate performance test. You must be able to type 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Education This position has an education requirement. You are strongly encouraged to submit a copy of your transcripts or a list of your courses including titles, credit hours completed, and grades.
