**Job Summary**
The Medical Technologist Lead is responsible for planning, coordinating and supervising all of the functions within the laboratory section including testing, quality control, training, maintaining supplies and relating with Laboratory administration. The Medical Technologist Lead ensures that services are of the best quality and is responsible for assuring section meets all regulatory requirements. The MT Lead performs laboratory testing as needed or required, updates section's computer data base as needed, evaluates employees using laboratory and hospital guidelines and policies to perform competency assessment. The Medical Technologist Lead encourages professional growth and development of staff and coordinates on site training of Medical Technologist or Medical Lab Technician students and new hires.
**Essential Functions**
+ Communicates appropriate information to lead staff member, supervisor, or administrative director in a timely manner.
+ Maintains a clear, neat and safe environment for patients and staff.
+ Provides clear, consistent and legible documentation.
+ Completes required education in a timely manner.
+ Consistently uses skilled communication which demonstrates congruence between words and actions and holds others accountable for doing the same.
+ Demonstrates population appropriate competencies for all relevant patient populations.
+ Accurately performs all moderate and high complexity tests assigned.
+ Completes and reports all test results in a timely manner with appropriate and accurate documentation.
+ Assures that quality control is performed as required.
+ Maintains all equipment as prescribed by the manufacturer. Reports problems to the Administrative Lab Director.
+ Effectively operates the Laboratory Information System for general laboratory and section specific functions.
+ Performs and delegates proficiency testing required for accreditation in a timely and accurate manner.
+ Assists section or shift supervisor in data collection and analysis required for laboratory accreditation.
+ Communicates all instrument malfunctions, QC problems, unusual patient results, and unusual events to the supervisor or Administrative Lab Director
+ Willingly accepts extra assignments and phlebotomy duties. Assists co-workers in completing all department and shift duties.
+ Always follows the Laboratory Safety plan by wearing Personal Protective Equipment as required and following the department safety regulations.
+ Assures section is compliant with all regulatory agency check lists
+ Ensures all proficiency testing is performed and reported in a timely manner.
+ Monitors quality control, trouble shoots outliers and corrects problems in a timely manner.
+ Completes competency assessments accurately and in a timely manner.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
+ Complies with all policies and standards.
**Qualifications**
+ Bachelor's Degree in Chemical, Physical, Biological or Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology required or
+ Other or equivalent AND have successfully completed an official military medical laboratory procedures course of at least 50 weeks duration and have held the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician) required
+ 2-4 years clinical laboratory training or experience or both in high complexity testing required
+ Less than 2 years acute care experience preferred
**Licenses and Certifications**
+ MLS - Medical Lab Scientist (Formally MT Certification) ASCP, AAB, AMT or equivalent required
