This position is responsible for performance and reporting of clinical laboratory testing using a variety of automated, semi-automated and manual technologies. Responsible for the accurate and timely reporting of test results, initial troubleshooting of problems, instrument maintenance and following safe laboratory practices.
Accountabilities/Duties:
Collect lab specimens and evaluates their acceptability. Completes necessary laboratory documentation. Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient results. Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed. Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the laboratory general supervisor or director. Utilize technical background knowledge of laboratory medicine across all areas of the laboratory. These include Immunohematology, Chemistry, TDM, Hematology, Coagulation, Serology, Urinalysis, Microbiology, and Phlebotomy. Observes all safety and compliance requirements. Other Duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or related field. Current certification as Medical Technologist (MT/CLS/MLS) or equivalent by a national board of registry ASCP.
Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum one year hospital laboratory experience preferred.
