Position Summary:
Performs Laboratory duties including but not limited to the following: Accuracy of laboratory billing, appropriate reporting of laboratory results, communication and marketing of lab to outside resources. Maintaining updating, developing, and writing policies and procedures for all areas of the laboratory. Knowledge of hospital and laboratory information systems. Knowledge of inventory, ordering, purchasing and receiving of laboratory and hospital supplies. Demonstrates leadership to ensure staffing is appropriate during Manager's absence. Will assist the Laboratory Director with budget requirements including capital requests and goals. Performance of venipuncture phlebotomy on Laboratory patients. Maintaining workflow in the lab by prioritizing, processing and resulting of physician orders. Responsible for meeting Hospital and Laboratory safety standards.
Maintains health information and confidentiality guidelines established by GHS. Promoting teamwork with the department, the physicians and staff, Hospital personnel, patients and family.
Performs testing in all areas of the laboratory. Ensures quality, accuracy and timeliness of test results. Will assume responsibility for section of the laboratory assigned to them within established federal guidelines. These sections include; Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Hematology, Serology, Computer, Laboratory General, Blood Gas, Point of Care, Microbiology, and Blood Bank. Responsibilities include Quality Control, maintenance, proficiency testing, competency testing of all personnel, new test method development, and staff education. Also responsible for monitoring quality and accuracy of staff performing tests in assigned area. Will participate and contribute to the Laboratory Performance Improvement program in order to improve skills, lab productivity, communication and teamwork within the hospital.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science with appropriate MT(ASCP) certification (or equivalent), 1 year of laboratory training or experience, or both, in high complexity testing preferred; OR Associate Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science with MLT(ASCP) certification (or equivalent), 2 years of laboratory training or experience, or both, in high complexity testing preferred. Current NC drivers license. Experience with computers, filing, leadership skills, laboratory billing experience, quality control, Performance Improvement, Compliance and CPT code knowledge preferred. Pursues programs of continuing education consistent with requirements of Granville Health System; participates in educational conferences, updates and maintains professional knowledge and skills related to areas of responsibilities in the Laboratory. Training in supervision and management skills will be required.
