Job Responsibilities

 

Performs all the functions and duties of the Pharmacy Technician 2. Ensures all equipment is in working condition and has current inspection stickers. Performs routine monitoring to ensure par levels are appropriate and shelves are clearly labelled. Maintains adequate stock of medications and supplies according to established policies and procedures. Ensures all documentation requirements for The Joint Commission are complete and accurate (i.e. controlled substance processes, unit inspections, cleaning logs, etc.). Accounts for control and distribution of controlled drugs in the Pharmacy. Procures and distributes medications per physician/pharmacist requests or prearranged work assignments according to established policies, procedures and protocols. Ensures Pharmacy Technician distribution functions are completed on time. Provides training and oversight for Pharmacy Technicians to ensure that all sterile preparation procedures, unit dose packaging, unit dose filling and Sure Med filling processes are being completed accurately and timely. Achieves timely completion and posting of schedules with minimum errors and monitors schedules and makes recommendations for staff realignment to cover sick calls and schedule gaps. Ensures that all Pharmacy Technicians receive complete training in all areas of the Pharmacy. Maintains orientation materials and programs. Oversees daily Pharmacy Technician work assignments. Assumes completion of all competency requirements of technical staff. May perform additional duties as assigned.

Education - High School diploma or equivalent Experience – 2 Years Hospital based experience in pharmacy Certification – Certified Pharmacy Technician within 6 months IF hired after July 1, 2022, required to obtain this certification within 6 months of hire if hired prior to July 1, 2022, not required to hold this certification Certification – BLS within 3 months of hire, New hires within 3 months Current TMs within 6 months of 9/12/2023 Licensure – Pharmacy Intern Upon Start, State of Virginia Pharmacy Technician license or a Pharmacy Intern license Licensure – Registered Pharmacy Technician Upon Start, State of Virginia Pharmacy Technician license or a Pharmacy Intern license
