Located on the tropical Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory, GEMCO is an open-cut mine that is accountable for over 20% of the world’s manganese ore production. ABOUT THE ROLE 

 

This is a permanent full-time position on a 4:3 (4 days on 3 days off) roster residential on Groote Eylandt or FIFO from Darwin/Cairns.

 

Domestic relocation to Alyangula, Darwin, or Cairns from anywhere in Australia is provided.

 

As the Medium-Term Planning Superintendent, you will lead the mid-term mine planning and water management efforts at GEMCO. As part of the Technical Services Lead Team, you will oversee the Medium-term Planning and Water Management teams, driving integration with corporate long-term planning. Your technical expertise will guide and mentor mining engineers and hydrogeologists, while collaborating with operational teams to deliver optimised production strategies, budget forecasts and rolling full year forecasts. You will also ensure the preservation of long-term resource value into the mid-term plan and into an executable production budget in collaboration with the Perth-based long-term planning team.

 

 

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to: 

 

Coach and lead a diverse team of mining engineers and hydrogeologists in all aspects of planning. Delivering the 24-month production plan, rolling monthly 12 month forecasts with supporting mine, water management, and rehabilitation plans. Identifying and mitigating risks to minimise production disruption and ensure the delivery of Safety Through Design. Enable the team to deliver strategic mine plans to high standards, annual operational water management strategy and align the operation’s planning to medium/long term strategy.

 

 

ABOUT YOU 

 

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following: 

 

Proven leadership and ability to coach diverse technical teams. A commitment to safety and continuous improvement, including process improvement. Strong understanding of large open-pit mining operations and their value drivers. Understanding of geology and hydrogeology sciences. Advanced skills in mine planning and optimisation software packages.

 

Qualifications for this position are: 

 

A Bachelor of Engineering degree (Mining or Civil) or equivalent.
