The Specialty Materials segment manufactures products that provide more than 150 material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for unique customer needs. Consequently, this segment operates in a wide variety of commercial and industrial markets that include display optics and components, semiconductor optics components, aerospace and defense, astronomy, ophthalmic products, telecommunications components and cover glass that is optimized for portable display devices.
**Scope of Position**
This individual will be directly involved with engineers and technologists in learning the melting glass processes. Duties will include assisting Engineering Dept. Heads and Engineers with projects in the plant. A midterm review and a final review will occur with plant senior leadership in midsummer.

**Day to Day Responsibilities**
+ Harrodsburg houses pioneering manufacturing processes for the development and production of glass substrates for use in Liquid Crystal Displays and consumer electronics.
+ Work will include project and process activities.
+ We are looking for those with a strong level of technical curiosity and who are able to deliver creative solutions to technical challenges.
+ Applicants should have the ability to work in a team-based environment and be able to participate as an individual contributor.
**Education**
+ We are seeking a pending Junior or Senior Engineering student, majoring in Chemical, Mechanical, or Materials Science.
**Requirements**
+ Motivated initiative-taker with independent learning style.
+ Basic knowledge of manufacturing systems.
+ Experience with data analysis (i.e. Microsoft excel, SPC rules)
+ Must be available for 10 weeks during Summer 2025 (May-August 2025) with a graduation date of December 2025 or later
+ Be interested in working for Corning, Inc after graduation, if presented with a full-time job opportunity.
+ Be willing to work at the posted job location
**Desired Skills:**
+ Process engineering skills - quantitative skills, coursework in engineering statistics or other statistical training.
+ Technical writing, ability to deliver technical presentations to operators, engineers and managers.
+ Innovative and technically curious. Problem solving and decision making. Results oriented.

The range for this position is $1,635.00 - $3,185.00 biweekly. Starting pay for the successful applicant is prescribed based on geographic location, nature of position, and year in school.
