This is an executive position (no union affiliation) and serves at the pleasure of the Mayor of the Municipality of Anchorage. DEPARTMENT: Anchorage Police Department HOURS OF WORK: Monday - Sunday, Hours vary LOCATION: 716 W 4th Avenue Example of Duties Perform triage, crisis assessment, crisis intervention and stabilization; referral and linkage services for individuals in crisis through the Mobile Integrated Health Program (MHIP). Provide client-centered mental health services; implement program goals; provide skilled psychotherapeutic casework services to MIHP clients with mental illness or neurodevelopmental disorders. Develop a collaborative relationship with the officer they will be paired with. Work environment is office based and mobile, including roving to individuals in need of MIHP services who are in homeless shelters, residences, hotels, hospitals, other public agencies, and the community at large. Foster relationships with external psychosocial agencies and organizations. Provide consultative services to other Municipal offices. Support other teams of the MIHP, as needed. Participate in department training, planning and unit strategies. Perform other required duties as assigned. Additional Information: This position serves as a member of the first co-responder model Mobile Intervention Team (MIT) in the Municipality of Anchorage. The incumbent will be paired with a police officer partner and will work collaboratively with that officer in responding to behavioral crises in real time throughout the Municipality. The incumbent will be expected to engage community members alongside law enforcement to assist community members with behavioral health emergencies. This will include entering homeless shelters and encampments, single-room occupancy hotels, assisted living facilities, hospitals, crisis centers, businesses, and at times being exposed to the elements while providing service. The position is unarmed, but the incumbent will be required to wear an identifying uniform including a body armor vest/ballistic vest. The professional in this position will be exposed to individuals experiencing suicidal ideation, acute psychosis, acute intoxication, domestic violence, interpersonal violence, sexual assault, and a wide array of complex trauma. Exposure to individuals experiencing medical emergencies including those that are life threatening occur intermittently. Exposure to individuals who have perpetrated crimes in their histories as well as at the time of contact will occur regularly. Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences Medical degree from an accredited Medical School, and six (6) years of experience in behavioral/mental health clinician providing clinical and/or case management services and/or substance use disorders. A State of Alaska Physician License at time of application. OR Master’s or higher-level degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or Marriage and Family Counseling, and two (2) years of experience in behavioral/mental health clinician providing clinical and/or case management services and/or substance use disorders. Must possess and/or obtain: Valid State of Alaska Driver’s License at time of hire with satisfactory driving record. Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN) / National Crime Information Center (NCIC) certification within thirty (30) days of hire. Satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160 and AS 12.62.400). Satisfactory Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) background check within (6) months of hire. Must possess the following abilities/qualities: Assess, intervene, or implement necessary emergency procedure protocols when dealing with behavioral health crises/emergencies. Multi-task with little to no supervision. Communicate verbally and in written format in a professional manner. Analytical skills. Preference: Licensed as a Clinical Social Worker. Licensed Professional in Psychology, Counseling or Marriage & Family Counseling.
