Job Overview:
The Mental Health Screener provides care in the acute care setting within the scope of practice defined by the Screening Law and other regulatory standards. Assures safety in practice by maintaining a realization of their own individual level of knowledge and experience and assumes responsibility for advancing knowledge by communicating with and utilizing resource persons/programs available. The Mental Health Screener individualizes the plan of care to address a specific patient s needs. Works in harmony with other staff members of an interdisciplinary team, assisting the Patient Care Manager and others as needed, to achieve the best service possible to patients. Responsible for supervising and directing the delegation of tasks to appropriate support personnel and for consistently setting and evaluating priorities.Qualifications:
Required:
BA/BS degree in a related field, plus 3 years of prior experience in a psychiatric cetting, 1 of which is in a crisis setting.Or enrolled in a Master's program with 2 years of prior experience in a psychiatric setting, 1 of which is a crisis settingMust possess and maintain a valid NJ state driver's licenseBLS through American Heart AssociationPreferred:
Eligible to obtain their Temporary Screening Certification Number upon hire and obtain their permanent number within 1 yearCertifications and Licenses Required:
Valid NJ State Driver's LicenseBLS CertificationMust be eligible to obtain their permanent Screening Certification Number within 1 year of hire.Scheduling Requirements:

Answers phones, i.e., hotline, business line, in a professional and timely mannerDemonstrates ability to communicate clinical information effectively with the Screening psychiatrist / Child psychiatristDemonstrates ability to communicate effectively with other members of the health care team (internal and external)Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively with the Screening RN in Charge of Shift as pertains to the patient s treatment plan and dispositionDemonstrates ability to conduct a thorough ongoing assessment according to departmental guidelinesDemonstrates ability to effectively provide patient care in a timely mannerEvaluates effects of interventions throughout the patients stay and updates the plan of care as per hospital policy.Documentation indicates thorough completion of request for off-site Screening evaluationDocumentation indicates that patient/family were provided with information based on Discharge Plan/Teaching ChecklistProvides hotline information/referral/interventions that conforms to Screening guidelinesScreening Assessment indicates determination of most appropriate services/ disposition according to patient s clinical needs (consideration of least restrictive alternatives)Screening Document reflects clear description of patient s mental illness as per Screening Law and guidelines from DMHS Certification trainingBenefits and Perks:
