Responsibilities

CHI St. Alexius is looking for a Full Time Mental Health Tech to join the team!

Provides quality direct patient care to the assigned population which includes but is not limited to maintenance of therapeutic milieu, provision of a safe and supportive environment while monitoring the basic physical, emotional and social needs. Serves as a role model for ethical behavior and promotes an awareness and understanding of positive ethical and moral principles consistent with the Mission, Vision and Values of Common Spirit. 

What You'll Do:

Assists patients through a trauma informed care atmosphere in the development of individuality and appropriate methods of self-expression through promoting an environment in which the patient can problem-solve and test out new behaviors.  Assists the patients in acknowledging and accepting responsibility for psychological and behavioral patterns through providing feedback and positive reinforcement, consistently applying program rights and regulations, behavior modification program and communicating in an appropriate manner with the patients.  Provides appropriate emergency care and maintains a safe environment. Maintains a secure environment and acts as a resource for emergency situations. Performs basic nursing tasks (i.e. but not limited to: vital signs, blood pressure, specimen collection, accu checks, weighing and assisting with ADL). Assists the nurse in carrying out orders that are within the scope of practice. Provides trauma informed care and supervision to patients needing physical restraints or seclusion room. 5. Assists the patient in dealing with relationship difficulties, supports and teaches appropriate socializations skills. Facilitates various supportive, classroom educational (where appropriate) and psych-educational activities. 6. Communicates effectively utilizing both verbal and written methods within a diverse and multi-cultural environment. Maintains appropriate communication networks and harmonious working relationships with members of the interdisciplinary team and other departments, through participating in staff meetings, quality assurance activities, safety, security and infection control programs, program development and implementation and all additional training assigned by leadership.  Utilizes Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) techniques to avoid and/or reduce the use of restraints and/or seclusion. Utilize CPI techniques for positive interpersonal skills, conflict management, problem solving, critical thinking and trauma informed care to promote development of each individual.  Documents objective observations of but not limited to patient behaviors, programing involvement, social interactions and mental status.  Carries out and completes assigned tasks within the scope of training and abilities as directed by leadership. This includes but not limited to arriving and leaving in a timely manner, representing self in a professional manner i.e. appropriate dress attire in Ceil blue scrubs. 
Qualifications

High School Diploma with at least 1 year of experience as a Psych Tech or Equivalent.  PRTF only must be 21 or older. 

Must be listed on the Nurse Assistant Registry operated by the North Dakota Department of Health  at the time of hire or within 90 days of employment.

Will obtain the following within six (6) months of employment:

         -Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Certification

         -Mandatory Child Abuse Reporting – APS- IA & NE

         -First Aid – PRTF only

BLS or BLS instructor certification is required upon hire.  Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include the following: American Red Cross: CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, American Safety and Health Institude: CPR, PRO, must say “Professional Level with AED”, and American Heart Association: Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.
